-13 (windchill of -39) here, and we're completely snowed in as the city has not plowed the roads in my subdivision yet. 12" on the ground, with much larger drifts due to high winds.

But hey, I work from home so I can still report to work. :(

17° f
outdoors

12° would match the 1959 record.
Might not reach freezing today, but we should be back to the 60s later in the week.

Dreading going to work today because the building isn't heated. You just sit and wait hours for the space heater to raise room temp.

Made it.

Roads were garbage. White outs the whole way in and my wipers and defrost couldn't keep up.

Nasty!

Huh. How much snow did you guys get? I thought it was the same 8-10 we got and the drive from Columbus overnight wasn't that terrible. The worst part were the semis. Get anywhere near the back of one and you couldn't see a goddamn thing

Granted the plowing may have been different and there was almost no one on the road at 3am

I am in the same boat...it is -45 with the wind chill...20 mph winds...

Just to go out and start the car it hurt...

I can't imagine what the football game would have been like if THIS was the weather they played in lol.

We get lake effect, you guys just get our leftovers.

The snow was bad but the wind is what made it really bad. I can deal with snow but when I can't see what the guy 2 cars up is doing I get a bit worried. Add in the fact that the salt isn't working because the temp is too low and you get a fun drive.

I never experienced anything colder than -5°C or so, I don't think I'd like it. I hate being constrained by heavier clothing so having to put something under the jeans would really be annoying.

Yea but we are prepared for it. Our houses are well insulated and we have big furnaces. You poor bastards don't have those advantages.

Do you have a furnace or a heat pump?

You don't unless you are going to be outside for a long period of time. Its -16C here and all I wore today was normal jeans, a button up short sleeved shirt, slip on shoes and my coat. I don't have one of those stupid super coats either. Just windproof with no insulation on the sleeves, body only.

I have a 95% efficient gas furnace, several electric space heaters and a kerosine backup heater (and about 5 gallons of kerosine). Not to mention, I have a fireplace (wood burning, no insert) but that tends to suck so much air into the house, it hardly helps (other than radiated heat).

Nice!

I remember a few years back some of our southern friends got hit with snow. They only had heat pumps and weren't too happy.

If you like space heaters, check out the oil filled ones that look like radiators. lil rudeguy uses one in his room since he is cold blooded (kid is half eskimo too!). It uses almost no juice and gets it TOASTY in there.

I don't like space heaters but the wife likes them in the bathroom and sometimes, in the bedroom. I would just assume turn the furnace up as I think it's cheaper than even a space heater.

so far we got 15cm of snow and lots of blowing snow. We tend to get both lake effect (Lake Huron) and regular storm snow. :(

all elementary and high schools are closed here today.

I only remember 1 or 2 snow days when I was a kid. One was the blizzard of 1977.

Usually yes but this storm was odd. Detroit through Ann Arbor are reporting similar totals to Grand Rapids while Flint is reporting 17" which is ~6 more inches than GR got. The jerks in Muskegon only got 6. I agree that the wind is terrible. We've got snow drifts like crazy around here

Indianapolis mayor asked every business to stay closed. FML. Daycare closed means more missed work....
