I've had every single bit of preventative service, and have still had problems. One issue was the recoil on coilpacks and another was my oxygen sensor. Since then I've had a cupholder die, vaccum leak(s), carbon buildup on intake, and windshield washer sensor die. Last night the car started saying it was overheating, but I checked the reservoir for the radiator and it was filled and not steaming. I drove the few more miles home and it didn't flash a warning again. I was going to take it in for service today, but when I tried to crank it the car would sputter and then die. Finally it stayed crank and I tried to back out of my garage and up the driveway -- too bad -- the engine died and the car starts rolling down the hill. Of course Audi is having the car towed for free, but still! They don't even have any loaners available, and I really don't want to hassle with getting a rental today. The people at the dealership have been super nice and they have always gotten the car back working right, but it still fails again. I've got MBNA desperately looking for me a car right now because I just hate dealing with car rental companies.

woahh that sucks!

just out of curiosity..how does a cupholder die?

you mean it just broke right? I mean, its just wierd how you phrased it :)

My friend had his coilpack go on his 2000 jetta vr6.

It's a german car, it will need a lot of maintenance and it will break down a lot.

German cars are slipping on quality now a days. Well read that in the JD Power survey that Top Gear did anyway.

This is impossible because it isn't domestic. Everyone knows that the only cars that have problems are domestic.

Sorry to hear about your problems.

65,000 miles on my Passat, only a few minor hiccups along the way. Vacuum lines, MAF sensor, coolant temp sensor.

Friend has a 94 Accord that he maintains well and doesn't abuse, yet he seems to put a couple hundred dollars worth of repair into it every couple of months. OMG I w1ll nevar buy a Honduh!!!

That's too bad. I've owned Volvos my whole life and haven't had a problem with any of them. In fact, we just bought my wife a new Cross Country in February because I think they're great cars.

yeah, my friend's supercharged Passat 2.8 is still running fine, he has 50k and claim he had not a major problem before and after the modifciation.... but yes, he agreed that he too has heard plenty of other VW horror stories.

toyota corolla baby! 50,000+ driven pretty hard, lots of city driving, ZERO problems, nothing.

edit: driving it into the ground and saving for a classy sports sedan.

It just died... I didn't do anything to it. One day I opened it and the whole thing fell out. *shrug*

This is a 2002 with 49k miles on it. I should not have had the problems I've had.

My parents 84 Audi 5000 had some problems every now and then, but it still runs fine today, which I couldn't say for the Honda Civic and Nissan Sentra they bought and sold within a couple years. At least an unreliable Audi is fun to drive, unreliable Civics and Sentras are the worst cars ever.

What many of you have to remember is that a lot of the VW/Audi problems cropped up from 99+. It hasn't been EVERY car, but when there is constant problems with yours and you see other stories on forums then it proves there are issues.

I never said Audi was super quality, but that it had better quality than VW. I still love the car, but just not its reliability. I'm probably going to go with a Porsche or BMW next.

1996 celica with the same-year corolla engine, 180k. i was told the engine can do 250k no problem until the tranny dies or i crash.
