What bothers me about LCDs is that all the current middleweight ones are 1280x1024, which is a messed up resolution. It doesn't have the traditional 4:3 aspect ratio.

I want an LCD, but they aren't good enough for my gaming tastes yet. :( Maybe when OLED monitors come out I'll buy one. ;)

I can't stand going back to an LCD...
I use my 21" CRT, and my 14" CRT...
sometimes when i'm doing upgrades.. i have to go on my sis' computer, and she has a benq 15" LCD...
the contrast is so bad.. i feel like i'm looking through a mesh... makes my eyes so sore trying to look at the screen....

maybe i just adapted to CRTs.... i never get any eyestrain looking at CRTs(unless they're at 60Hz).. and i sit in front of 2 CRTs...
gotta love the resolution too :) 2624x1200

I'm a CRT user. What makes LCD's so much better? I know the resoultions won't go up as high but is there anything else??

^---this is why LCDs are better, and why I just bought one (heat/desk space concerns) Also, they are much sharper. That said, I still  my Viewsonic PF790 and I'd still have it as my main monitor if I didn't have said concerns.

shady06, I assume you are also going to a UC school?

lcd's match the aspect ratio of their native resolution physically, so your argument is pointless. :)

Not really. All he is saying is that he wishes that the manufacturers produced the LCD's with an aspect ratio of 4:3, which is not unreasonable at all.

It's amazing how much desk space I have re-claimed with an LCD vs the old 19" CRT.

Yup....I have a 1901fp and my comp sci labs have nice 19" Dell trinitrons. Although the CRTs are awesome crts, they don't seem to have the clarity and crispness of the 1901.

I switched over several months ago, and I am never going back to a CRT. I spent a bit more than most ($600 on a 17"- Eizo Nanao), but this is easily the best monitor I've ever used, bar none. Even my NEC 19" AG monitor distinctly pales in comparison to this one. Pictures look absolutely stunning, and it's exceptionally bright and easy on the eyes.

On the viewing angle, I have ZERO problems on this, and I don't even notice even slight changes while sitting in front and slightly off to the side. Now, my Dell laptop at work (slightly older model) is horrible for viewing angle problems. If not I'm not sitting directly in front with just the right vertical angle, it's dark and awful to use. I'm supposed to get another laptop shortly so hopefully it will be better.

I have the same problem, in school I have a laptop w/ LCD (doh!) and after a day sitting to a LCD I can't stand my crt :p

But I'll probably soon buy the new Samsung 172X (?).
