Damn, I spent 10k this year on dad's CC

I just realized that i think that i spend way too much money on stupid sh1t, im 20 and in college, anyway i was just lookin on the amex website and my card alone i spent 10k on since last aug. You gotta take into consideration that these charges include books, food, bills, etc... but exclude rent, lease car, and tuition. I guess its true what they say you only realize when its your own money.....anyways all you college ATOT'ers (not living at home) does 10k sound about right, seems kinda high to me.

edit: well this includes my cancun trip so subtract 1500ish

Food: $250ish a month (we eat out alot)
Utils(Comcast, Water, Heat, Electricity): $110 month
Books: $500 both sems
Parking Tickets: I wanna say avg $50 month

I probably spend about 15K a year which includes tuition, books, housing, food and some fun and computer items. Funds spend on the GF are probably negligable since we pay every other time when we go somewhere.

well, tuition here is 12k(instate, i think) and i pay 400 a month for housing, so i guess i do spend in excess, the thing is i really dont notice it, i just buy the necessities i think

Well, they say use it for whatever you need to get and like i mentioned in the post above my only real expenses are food( i do eat out alot, but still it cant be that much), books, comcast bill, water bill, electricity, parking tickets, and some shopping

About 15k/year, excluding tuition. Just rent, bills, food, supplies and some money for entertainment.

Tuition, from now on, is covered from being an RA and TA. w00t!

How else does a full time college student acquire money and still put up good grades(3.8), also im willing to say that 80pct of people at umich dont have jobs/use parents loot

Figure $250/month in food. Over a year (8 months worth of actual school time) that's $2,000
Books should cost no more than $400 a semester. Over a year that's $800.
Cell phone is $40/month. $320 a year.

Of actual "vital" purchases, that's $3,120 accounted for out of $8,500.
If you have a meal plan, then allowing $750 for take-out over the year (not unreasonable) then that only accounts for $1,870 out of $8,500.

Throw in booze on top of that, at say $70 a month. So that's $560 over a year.

Totals
W/o Meal Plan: $3,680 out of $8,500.
W/ Meal Plan: $2,430 out of $8,500.

That leaves a lot of money on useless sh!t.

EDIT: Saw you also pay for Electricity, Comcast, and Water. But no cell phone.

So add another $150 a month onto that bill for utilities. Over a year, that's $1,200.

W/ Meal Plan: $3,630 out of $8,500.

That's still a lot of money on useless sh!t.

I wish I had almost $4,000 of my parents money to blow.

food-$150/month
books-$900 a year or less for most people
comcast-$50? a month
water, electricity-I dunno, less than $50 a month I'd imagine
parking tickets-you're stupid

"shopping"-anything above, say, $100 a month is excessive. Though really even $100 a month is more than most people "need".

Just to let you know how substantial $4,000 a year is, that's over 32 credits at my local community college, which transfer to my college (Univ. of MD).

Which is basically a year less I have to take of school at UMD.

I made 10k last year, and its all gone. I spend it on food, high quality food, sushi, steak, mmmmmm. . . I also have a gf. I've bought a computer, 2 monitors, paid for some classes, paid for rent for myself

Parents pay for all my tuition/dorm fees, i pay for anything extra ie books, clothes, fun stuff. In a year... probably 3k at most.

In terms of random stuff I buy, I spend almost nothing (except a $1200 computer upgrade this year, which occurs probably every 4-5 years regularly with small upgrades in-between). In terms of tuition, rent, board, etc., all but about $6000 is covered by my school. Other similar expenses (violin lessons, flights for mock trial tournaments) probably tack on another $3000 or so yearly. So I'd say $5000 is reasonable, $10000 too much. I mean my computer upgrade will be covered by a $3000 stipend I'm getting this summer anyway.
