what a sad, sad day in the life of clamum, to realize such a thing.

no worries, all you need to do is update your netflix queue and you're well on your way to joining the rest of the culturally-educated world ;)

it is a great flick.

It doesn't matter when the movie came out, everyone has seen it and it's still the best movie ever.

Period.

If you don't get princess bride references, you don't deserve to be entertained by xkcd.

I keep hoping for a version with those crappy Fred Savage scenes edited out...otherwise, it's a great movie.

One of the first movies I ever saw with my now-wife.

I must quote that movie daily.

I don't "deserve" to enjoy XKCD because I haven't seen some shitty chick flick (yeah all I know about this film is the first couple of sentences on Wikipedia). Whatever.

xkcd is like that fairly often. Sometimes he seems to put so much effort just into making a particular reference that he forgets to also make a joke.

Duh. really?

Princess Bride...

You forget, the princess bride is on the dawn of recorded history for most of ATOT. I always wondered how many posters saw the original Star Wars when it was released in the theaters.

The first movie I remember seeing was Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
It was at the drive in.

I made that mistake the first time when I was a kid.
"Princess Bride? Yeah, no thanks, I'm gonna go play."
Then I saw it a couple years later, and found out it was awesome.

I do. It's my first memory as kid, and I was almost 4 years old in June of 1977 (born in Sept '74) when we saw it. I remember waiting in line for over 2 hours, and then the power going out in our showing, during the cantina scene. A car hit a power pole, and we had to come back at a later date. :(

I don't remember that showing, though.

I think thats part of the problem. This movie was never as popular as it could have been because the name is "Princess Bride". It totally sounds like a chick flick. Wasn't there a series of chick flicks in the 90s with a VERY similar name?

I think every guy makes this mistake the first time they hear about it, but I don't think I've ever met anyone who didn't like it. for a span of like 6 months in high school I would watch it literally once a week. I could recite it almost word for word.

The OP made one of the classic blunders.

The first of which is never get involved in a land war in Asia.

The second blunder, only slightly less well known, is never go against ATOT when movie quotes are on the line!
