Once again, there having a 30% off sale. Teriyaki and Black Pepper was too overwhelming for my taste. Discounted original and the one pound barbecue are very good. Enjoy.

I've been eating Big Johns regular jerky lately. Anyone know how this compares? I don't like Jack Links or Oberto.

Is this jerky really good? I usually get my jerky from a butcher shop in Bozeman, MT (the family sends me a couple shipments a year) and its usually gone in a week because it is just so damn good. Not wanting to bother the family i placed an order at jerky.com for some "Texas Best." I have NEVER been more disappointed. The jerky was all dried out and very old...like eating tree bark. Is that what this stuff is like?

I didn't like Big Johns myself. Too dry for me. I'm actually enjoying Walmart's store brand. It's better than Jack Links and the others. Someone let us know how these fare!

hahah@shock.

I second Temjin, Wally worlds jerky is a favorite for long car trips. Jerky and diet monster drinks fuel 700 mile drives in my world.

Minimum order is $20 and shipping was $8 for me. Think I'll pass for now. That's too much to pay just to try it.

Ordered 2 lbs on Monday and got it this morning. It isn't too bad, but not quite what I had expected....

So why dont people make their own? Grab 5lbs of lean steak for 2.50$ lb (grab the "old" stuff or sale items) slice it and chuck it in the oven at ~250F and youve got 2lbs of the best you can get for 12.50$. Ive been doing it that way forever. Takes like 10 minutes to trim the fat and cut it up then an hour or two in the oven depending on how dry you want it.

Got a sampler bag of each delivered to the office. So far, the Western Style is a big hit, but haven't opened the Death by Jerky. Thanks for the deal...

What do you marinade/season it with?

Bob

I just use whatever seasonings I like, you can just do some good ol seasoning salt for a basic taste. Or you can use some of that carribean jerk for a spicier taste. You want dry spices or watery sauce...if you use something like BBQ sauce it gets funky (you could probably marinade it in a thick sauce if you want then wipe it off/water it down when cooking) . And like I said, get something fairly lean (like london broil) and trim the large chunks of fat off the sides. Fat doesnt dry and youd end up with either rubber or slime. I cook the meat in some cast iron skillets and once I see the meat is brown and the pan is full of water I know its done. You can keep cooking it untill all the water evaporates or just pull the meat and let it kinda air out. I use the lowest setting on my oven which I think is 250. Its pretty easy.
