I think it shuts down chemicals that react to signals sent by the brain to 'pain' areas or something to that effect. Wish I knew.

It's the caffeine. I don't know if it gets your blood moving faster, or what, but that's the kicker.

I agree on this however there are at times when you just don't have the time for it. Other than aspirin, I don't ever take drugs. Not even when I have a cold or flu. Headaches are just..BAD.

Yup, it works well. Advil, Aleve, Tylenol = worthless on me. Vicoden doesn't even do anything for me...

I don't think so as after I drink coffee, more than often enough I get a headache. It also accentuates existing headaches to the point where I feel like my head is about to explode. Too bad I LOVE coffee![]()

Drugs are generally used to address symptoms of an ailment -- not for preventative measures. Symptoms are usually your body's way of signaling or fighting an irregularity in the system. Rather than shutting down your defense mechanisms, I feel you should try to determine the underlying cause of these reactions, and use your energy to accelerate the healing process.Originally posted by: Tick
What's wrong with drugs?

Headaches, for example, can be caused by a wide array of problems. Taking an acetaminophen simply suppresses the enzymes that signal the pain to begin with. It does nothing to cure the actual ailment. What if the headache is the beginning of a cold? What if it's the result of too much stress? What if it's due to a tumor? Your headache disappears when you take the medicine, but the problem remains.
