ROFL!!! Never try to catch a falling knife. I still don't think people realize that AMD is going to get cheaper and you just proved it.

Anybody else get hosed on AMD stock today?
You also have to compare the R&D that they both do. I'm not an analyst and don't claim to be, but my opinion has always been that when it comes to R&D, Intel has an edge. If I had to put my money with a company for the long run, it would be Intel. They have a proven track record and have been able to provide better results on the whole.Originally posted by: MaxDepth
I think the market is going on perception of the company where it is and what you hear about on the street. AMD is not just CPUs and GPUs. It has a whole market of embedded systems as well.
Unfortunately, Intel comes roaring back from their spanking by AMD with not only better CPUs but also a better methodology for creating new chips.
Buying ATI looks like a good investment when you approach a holistic view of a motherboard, but in reality, it was quite expensive to have something that is better than Intel in that market but not enough of a margin right now. Maybe the purchase will pan out a couple of years from now.
As for Linux, Intel is on top too with disclosure for open source while AMD just released 2D specs for drivers. Just now. <shakes head>
I cannot recommend an ATI/AMD mobo for HTPCs (where I think the market is heading) because open source is just not there and a Wintel solution is more expensive than an Intel/nVidia solution.
I do hope AMD/ATI get back on track but I do not see it as $40+ stock anymore in the next two to three years. More like $12.

It very well could go lower.
It almost will certainly go up, though. Look at AMD's history.. It's like driving through the Himalayas... lol

i should have shorted AMD when i heard they bought ATI. Kinda like when quaker bought Snapple. FUBAR city...
They have no real plan for ATI.
Nvidia is now king.

Well I assume "Fusion" is still a go. A CPU/GPU hybrid chip could still be huge and nobody else has the expertise in both aspects like AMD. In fact, they're uniquely positioned to pull it off and reap the bounty.
I may end up picking some stock up because I'm seeing AMD all over the place. True, the bleeding edge may still belong to Intel, but 95% of the market isn't bleeding edge....it's cost effective. Analysts seem to be focussing too much on Phenom's failure to take over the performance crown rather than the successful introduction and broadening of the use of AMD chips in HP and Dell systems.
I know they were also poised to get huge subsidies to build a plant in New York. And if I recall, there's still a lawsuit with Intel pending. And the 3850 and 3870, from a value standpoint, really took the crown from Nvidia and could grab a lot of the holiday sales. And they may sell a Fab in Germany to TSMC. Lots of potential good news.
lol, nonsense.Originally posted by: JS80

The funniest thing about AMD is their, CEO Hector Ruiz makes more than Intel's CEO.

AMD has been losing marketshare to Intel and are heavily in debt.
That's what analysts are focusing on.
$5.3 Billion in debt is no "chump" change, especially for a small company like AMD.
The $622 million investment AMD recieved from UAE/Mubadala Development Co. is not even enough to cover interest payment on their debt.
