I thought it was looking good at $12.15. Man was I wrong, lol. I think it's gonna go lower so if you've been waiting for it, keep waiting. It'll go back to 7 at least.

I'll wait (to buy) until AMD releases something good (ie: can compete with Intel/NVidia in terms of performance) for the Desktop, and then I'll wait until it show a noticeable upward trend. Until then, I'm not touching it.

ROFL!!! Never try to catch a falling knife. I still don't think people realize that AMD is going to get cheaper and you just proved it.

It very well could go lower.

It almost will certainly go up, though. Look at AMD's history.. It's like driving through the Himalayas... lol

I think the market is going on perception of the company where it is and what you hear about on the street. AMD is not just CPUs and GPUs. It has a whole market of embedded systems as well.

Unfortunately, Intel comes roaring back from their spanking by AMD with not only better CPUs but also a better methodology for creating new chips.

Buying ATI looks like a good investment when you approach a holistic view of a motherboard, but in reality, it was quite expensive to have something that is better than Intel in that market but not enough of a margin right now. Maybe the purchase will pan out a couple of years from now.

As for Linux, Intel is on top too with disclosure for open source while AMD just released 2D specs for drivers. Just now. <shakes head>

I cannot recommend an ATI/AMD mobo for HTPCs (where I think the market is heading) because open source is just not there and a Wintel solution is more expensive than an Intel/nVidia solution.

I do hope AMD/ATI get back on track but I do not see it as $40+ stock anymore in the next two to three years. More like $12.

i should have shorted AMD when i heard they bought ATI. Kinda like when quaker bought Snapple. FUBAR city...

They have no real plan for ATI.

Nvidia is now king.

You also have to compare the R&D that they both do. I'm not an analyst and don't claim to be, but my opinion has always been that when it comes to R&D, Intel has an edge. If I had to put my money with a company for the long run, it would be Intel. They have a proven track record and have been able to provide better results on the whole.

AMD is $5.3 Billion in debt...
The funniest thing about AMD is their, CEO Hector Ruiz makes more than Intel's CEO.

Buying AMD stock is pretty much stupid at this point in time.
We haven't heard much about their future plans and yet Intel's Nehalem processor has already been tapped out on schedule.
I don't see them catching up to Nehalem at this point.

Now is not the time to buy AMD stock even if you think or are hoping that they will release a processor that will beat Intel to a pulp in 2009.

Well I assume "Fusion" is still a go. A CPU/GPU hybrid chip could still be huge and nobody else has the expertise in both aspects like AMD. In fact, they're uniquely positioned to pull it off and reap the bounty.

I may end up picking some stock up because I'm seeing AMD all over the place. True, the bleeding edge may still belong to Intel, but 95% of the market isn't bleeding edge....it's cost effective. Analysts seem to be focussing too much on Phenom's failure to take over the performance crown rather than the successful introduction and broadening of the use of AMD chips in HP and Dell systems.

I know they were also poised to get huge subsidies to build a plant in New York. And if I recall, there's still a lawsuit with Intel pending. And the 3850 and 3870, from a value standpoint, really took the crown from Nvidia and could grab a lot of the holiday sales. And they may sell a Fab in Germany to TSMC. Lots of potential good news.

AMD has been losing marketshare to Intel and are heavily in debt.
That's what analysts are focusing on.

$5.3 Billion in debt is no "chump" change, especially for a small company like AMD.
The $622 million investment AMD recieved from UAE/Mubadala Development Co. is not even enough to cover interest payment on their debt.

lol, nonsense.

I'm sure the same thing was said when AMD was spanking Intel for a short period in the 386 days.

Intel will give AMD breathing room. Otherwise Intel'll get sued even more for anti-trust and all that good stuff if AMD is gone. Especially now that even Apple's dropped IBM or whatever they were using for Intel.

If AMD can fix the TLB erratum, increase top Barcelona/Phenom speed to ~3.0 ghz, and have good yeild for k10 product line (single, duo, triple, quad cores) from 2.2 ~ 3.0 ghz, then I'd say buy AMD. Until then, stay away.

LOL. If you go off what you see on the CPU forum at Anandtech, sure. But AMD is actually starting the slowly take back some market share. In Q3 they grabbed twice as much market share as Intel did. Both were slight, but in no way are they still hemorraging market share. If anything it bodes well for them that they have weathered this year so well. Being now entrenched in the "value" market, I'd hate to see what would happen to Intel if AMD did manage to take back the performance crown.
