DAMMM!!! The fvking US Post Office lost my $2,600 deposit! What do I do?

I have an account in an Internet bank who's head quarters are not very far from where I live (around 20-30 miles away). I live in East Cobb, btw, which is as suburb of atlanta.

I use that Internet bank because the interest is so high - 4% for a checking account. I ususally make all my deposits of checks with envelops that I mail. They generally receieve and process them after about one day.

However, I mail the latest batch of checks monday, totalling $2600 . they still not have receieved it. I think the post office lost it. What's worse, I ususally keep a copy of who sent me what check in what amount on my computer. I know I entered it into the computer on monday. however, it isn't there! all my other previous info are there; the info I need isn't (figures, right... 🙁 )

I can get about $1,800 of the checks back, but the rest were from misc sources, such as rebates, etc. that I have no idea who mailed them who us.

Is there any way to start a mail trace with the USPS? I'll gladly pay $100+ to get the envelope recovered...

Can any one help?

Did you:

a) make copies of the checks before mailing?
b) send the the checks via certified mail?

If you didn't I would STRONGLY suggest doing that in the future.

The post office pretty much I thought had lost my package.

Then about 3 months later it shows up all beat to hell on my doorstep.

Hmmmmmmmmm.

Hey Paulson! you're back... restarting your 10,000 post count, right... 🙂

should I just write this off as a $800 loss and forget about it, or should I go complain to hel and see if the bank will take responsibility?

if you dont know who the checks were from and for what amounts then your probably fuked. i doubt the bank will take responsibility and the post office wont. your only chance is probably if you get a call from whoever wrote the check and they ask you why you didnt deposit the check.

Same has happened to me.

I have also gotten letters...torn to shreads and placed in a plastic bag. There was a note on the bag that basically said "OOPS."

Sending $2600 via regular mail??? Man, you're brave!

I'd use FedEx every time for that stuff. I think you're out of luck on that one though you might try heading down to your local post office and raising hell about it.

Some of you said Fedex is safe and good, I agree! But he/she uses the internet bank to earn the 4% APR, if everytime he/she send check in via Fedex, eventually the shipping cost will higher than the interest earned.

The best way is to use your check card (that has VISA on it)
Here is how i deposit my internet bank (some banks don't offer this feature). I deposit all my check at my local Bank of America. Then I login to my internet bank and deposit the internet bank using my Bank of America check card. It is free service provided by the internet bank and since it is not a credit card, there is no cash advance fee.

As for your lost mail, i don't think you can track it or claim it. Give it a few more days and hope it shows up. I've experienced once a package arrived after TWO MONTHS via Priority Mail!!!

Keep us updated...hope you get your money back!!!
Otherwise, next time, rent a couple Dobermans and have them rough up the portly mailman. 😉

You can open a very basic checking account with no minimum balance at a local bank. Deposit all your rebates and other receiveable checks there, and then send one fat check to your online bank with certified mail ($2.20).

Should somehow the mail get lost, you can request a stop payment for $25--a small amount compared to $2600.

Some online banks/brokerage have arrangements that customers can bring their deposits to mailbox etc stores (now owned by UPS) and UPS will ship the deposits for free.

I hope they found your mail.

Dude- Didn't you say you sent it out Monday? Don't worry yet, wait another week or so. Sometimes things like this happens.

Yes, I'm back to jumpstart another 10,000 posts and get banned 😛

I'm just going through my APC (AnandTech Posting Cycle)
