I'm only a little surprised, everyone else I talked to seemed to think it was going to sunset though.

The "gun show loophole" isn't private party sales, is it? Because if that's the case, I'm buying my XD this weekend. Private sales are the only reason I even go to gun shows. The government doesn't need to know about every gun I own.

I kinda doubted they would let it die, but I was sure hoping.

It still has to make it past committee, the House, and Bush's desk.

The measures, along with another that allows off-duty and retired police officers to carry concealed weapons across state lines, are attached to a Senate bill that insulates gun manufacturers from potentially ruinous lawsuits except those involving illegal sales or defective parts.

Woohoo! It's finally on it's way through! :D

The "gun show loophole" is meant to cover private sales. It is what the Democrats are calling "unlicensed dealers".

And the odds of that not happening?

If the bill is not modified to an acceptable form in committe, then the Republicans and the NRA are going to do everything in their power to kill the bill in the House. The AWB renewal is piggybacking on the lawsuit protection bill. Hopefully it will be returned to it's original form.

Bush supports the ban :(.

It's not all that big of a deal, as ViperGTS said, the biggest inconvience is the lack of legal highcap magazines

He did say that he wantes the protection bill for manufacturers to be without amendments. Hopefully that counts for something and he would veto the bill if it comes before him. The Republicans know that voting for "gun control" is a loosing proposition for them, especially the House which is coming up on elections soon.

Yeah, because having a collapsible stock and a flash supressor and pistol grips instantly make a gun more deadly.

Edit: For those that don't know what the AWB is about, it basically bans cosmetic features on guns that would make them "Assault weapons".

The AWB prohibits weapons made after 1994 that have 3 or more of the following features:
-detachable magazines
-Bayonet lug (because people go around shooting people and then stabbing them all the time
rolleye.gif
)
-folding or telescoping stock
-pistol grip
-flash supressor or threaded barrel (silencers are regulated, so this is stupid)
-grenade launcher (irrelevant because grenades are heavily regulated)

It also bans new magazines from being over 10 rounds.

Banning things like grenades and armor piercing bullets is one thing, but ratifying a bill that has absolutely nothing to do with assault weapons is ludicrous.

Not to mention all the people killed by the bayonet lugs on those rifles.

Yay for medical personell control! So many people die by the hands of medical personell, it's amazing that they haven't been banned.

From the CNN article.

Where are you seeing that? I've read through it several times & I'm not seeing it...

Well, from other CNN/news things i've seen, they have said that the house has enough people to vote against the AWB as of right now.
