Lol so the man who was shot has been charged with aggravated assault of a police officer.

Unfuckingbelievable.

I will reserve judgement on what the mother said until such time as the 911 tapes are released.

The video appears to show an unprovoked shooting. We'll see if anything else comes out at the trial, but frankly I suspect that this one will be tried as Murder 1. It appears that the policeman took some time, thought about it, then started pulling the trigger. A good lawyer will get that translated to premeditated.

On another note, what's your hard-on for cops? When you are going to start posting about all the traffic stops that were perfectly congenial, all the times when the cops have saved people or arrested violent suspects, or all the times when honest, innocent policeman are shot down while just trying to do their duty?

Or is your agenda a little too transparent for that?
Frankly, I think that you should reserve judgment completely on this case until after you've actually read the article linked to in the OP. You're not guilty of murder - if you don't kill someone. He's alive.

According to the law if the cops have reason to believe a person has a deadly weapon, and a knife qualifies they can use deadly force.

They were already thinking along those lines before even pulling up to the house.
haha, absolutely not. Stop making up laws that make no sense.

Are you kidding? Obviously most of the time cops are acting legally and decently. I can't imagine it would make for an interesting topic if people posted about a traffic stop that went fine or a guy arrested for being abusive and the cop did a perfect job with it. It's the exceptions that merit threads. Cops don't need threads; pigs do.

Of course he was. Just like the guy who was recently attacked by 4-5 cops and one cop who had a dog on a leash attacked him with the dog and the guy was charged with assaulting the dog.

Basically if a cop has no reason to hit you with a baton and does so anyway and sprains his shoulder doing it you assaulted him.

Perhaps saying something along the line of, "I haven't done anything wrong" = aggravated assault of a police officer.

IMHO, those fat pussies wouldn't last 5 minutes in a war zone if they actually have to serve and protect civilians and their mates.

lol, there are further circumstances beyond what is available in the video...like a demon possessed the idiot and made him shoot, lol

guess the cop didnt count on being videoed so he came up with the age ole, "he came at me with a knife" so was a knife found?

*snort*. Sorry about that. I watched the video and skimmed the article, and somehow equated shot to killed. Heh.

True.

I've been following this case (it's a local one) and can say the following :

(1)- Happily the charged have now been dropped. I would like to think that riots would have ensued had they not been. Of course that doesn't make everything better, this whole scenario never should have happened anyway.

(2)- Dallas Police Department is one of the better 'big-city' departments in recent years. Sure there are some bad situations like this one, that's probably unavoidable in some respects, but it doesn't seem to be an epidemic like it is with most departments involving this large of a force with an area with as much crime as Dallas has.

(3)- Following #2 there, l do believe this guy (the shooter) will get some pretty legit charges against him. I think the minimum acceptable would be AADW, but who knows. Hopefully it's not something that gets plea bargained down too much.

good to know the charges are dropped. Hopefully the shooter faces some serious charges. not just for the shooting but the false charges and the lies about it.

Just an update.

Cop who did the shooting was fired after the IA investigation. The Dallas Police department had also asked for an arrest warrant for his arrest but a judge refused to sign it and told them to take it to the DA to go to a grand jury. The DA is conducting their own investigation, but it looks like charges for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon will be heard by a grand jury.

The cops partner who falsified statements for the affidavit to charge the guy is on "restricted duty" pending the investigation into his false statements about what happened. Whats funny/sad is after he saw the video tape he changed his story saying acute stress made him get the order of events wrong. After his change of story, more evidence came out proving that his new story was wrong as well. He should be fired as well but unfortunately I doubt it will happen. It is obvious he was trying to uphold the blue line and protect his partner, instead of reporting his partner for improper actions. If the neighbors hadn't been recording and taking photos, these cops would have gotten off scot free.

Not only fired but charged. There should be a pretty heavy punishment for cops who break the law and knowingly cover it up.

That's great news. I think you'll find that in any profession, people would rather lie than lose their job or go to jail.

Don't worry though. We're about due for another OldGamer thread on why we should hate the police. I'm surprised we haven't seen one on why we should hate the military and the government too.

Oh yes, because I post all the time about how much we should hate cops right??

Whats the matter, you're not liking the news reports that are coming up almost weekly about bad cops and their bad behavior?

Personally I would rather shed light on it than try to hide it, or deny that it happens.

I have never said to anyone in this forum that people should hate cops btw. So stop lying and making shit up.

*snort*

How many threads have you started that are negative toward the police?

How many threads have you started that are positive toward the police?

Does Fox News ever come right out and say they hate Democrats, or do their actions speak loudly enough?

Seriously. Most folks around here aren't stupid. They see what you're doing.

Seems to me you are the only person who has a beef with the posts I have made lately concerning these specific type news articles.

If you don't like the posts I make you are free to report them to the mods, complain to the mods, you can even choose not to read them.

Your making a lot of assumptions about me and my posts and reading a bit too much into it.

Another pig lying about his criminal behavior. There are so many videos of this kind of thing it makes me squirm to think how many times these kinds of events have happened without footage.

I'll say it again: God Bless video cameras. It gives me pure joy to see dirty cops' lies undermined by video footage.

I really don't think it's going overboard to say lack of trust in police tears at one of the essential fabrics of society. We always are told that for every dirty cop 99 are good. What's the real number? I have no idea. One thing's for sure: cops rarely (ever?) admit to being wrong--to a bad shoot. We can't get vest cams on the damn lot of them soon enough. I don't think the good cops do enough to demonize the pigs among their ranks who by extension sully the whole group.

Lying on a police report should have a mandatory minimum sentence. If not for this video footage both cops would have lied and been back in business. Both who lied MUST go to prison for this.
