Official Blizzard Quote:
[Blizzard Source]
Q: I suppose that you do not have a world-hysteria scoop to offer the readers of Liberation concerning the official and definitive release date of Diablo 3?

A: Alas, no. Just to confirm to you that we are full at work for the game to release this year. The development is technically completed. We are in a internal-testing and feedback-gathering phase. Yes, there are good chances of releasing before the end of 2011, but it is impossible to us, at this time, to guarantee you that.

also, more info on beta in may.

Sweet, my wrists have been asking for a grueling workout, D3 will allow that.

I bet they're holding it back, waiting to see what's happening with Guild Wars 2.

Don't hold your breath. Large software projects, especially those from Blizzard, are notorious for taking a long time after "development complete" to actually ship. There is bug fixing, integration testing, balance testing, manufacturing testing, alpha, beta, RC testing, etc. I suspect any dev builds are in a pre-alpha stage, which means the game is at least a year out.

as most expected at earliest it will be a holiday 2011 release. However i still think it'll be pushed back to 2012. They (blizz) should have the 2nd SC2 expansion coming in '11 or '12 as well

12 is also rumored to have the next WoW expansion

Whenever it comes out, I'd bet that D3 is released before the SC2 expansion. I have nothing to go on but that just seems right.

My experience in testing says you are wrong. In fact many of the games I tested were either missing features at release or added significant changes to gameplay just before release. It is very rare to see a game 100% months before release.

well blizzard is pretty good about shipping a game about 100% as a S/W title can be. the only big exception is WOW, but that is mainly because the balancing is damned near impossible for an MMO with so many classes and skills. SC2's bugs were relatively minimal and mainly to balance things, and the same holds true for warcraft 3 and diablo 2.

All of the news I have been seeing is a November 2011 release date - just in time for Christmas.

Can you create a beta profile for several different computers (to increase the odds of being selected)?

What is your experience in testing?

This is where people are confused with "beta". They think that major pieces of functionality might still go in. This is a misnomer. Beta software is very close to the final product. If you have a company putting in large pieces of functionality in those last few months, there is something terribly wrong. Good companies do not do this. Gameplay may be tweaked, bugs may be fixed, but "development" is finished much earlier.

If you are not in software devel, that may be where there is confused. "Development complete" is FAR from "game complete". Dev complete means all the major pieces have been coded and the game is playable. It will crash, it will not work as intended in many places, but it is good enough for a QA team to work with and begin to identify bugs.

The biggest factor that could delay the release of Diablo 3 is that it might end up having to wait for a console port like Dragon Age: Origins did.

You really think they'd hold the PC version for a PC/console simultaneous release? What would be the harm in releasing the PC version ASAP, then a console version 6-12 months later?
