2. "says you shot it at f5.6" ?? Where does it say that? I don't know what the settings were at, just put the bottle in the left of the frame, selected depth of field to hold the left portion of the label and shot. I was standing above the bottle shooting down so that's why from top to bottom it gets blurry.

This is where it says you shot at F5.6. On a side note, the Canon S30 is a great camera but it has the worst EXIF print out I have ever seen. If the aperature or speed is even mentioned in the printout, either I am blind or there is something just wrong with my camera. How handy, the two most important information printouts are not even on my camera's pictures.

Schaweeeet! thanks Entity! I'll surely take you up on that offer once I have time to do some more shooting. Nice to have an OC line on retainer ;)

Nice, but if you do not have a good tripod, you will not get 1/10 the quality in macro shots. Meebe you have that already though.
Yup, picking up a Tripod next week. Budget's a little soft right now and I don't like puttin' much on the cards. I'll be thankful for the Image Stabilizer for the time being! :D

That's a sweet program you reference Staples! I was just lamenting the fact that I didn't know what settings I had taken some of the pics at and now I'm relieved to not be too burdened with taking notes while shooting! :D. Thanks!

On the Canon Initiation note, we're just getting to know the neighbors ('s only been 4 years ;) ) and they have two cats!! So, time to abuse our new found friendship and get this initiation thing out of the way :D. Busy week so I prolly won't get the Cat's posted 'till next week, but I'll gett'em, oh yes, I'll get them.

Hey lirion, I'll get some posted soon. Well, mabye not soon, but as soon as I can! I'm anticipating a 75+ hour work week through sunday so I won't likely have time to do much this week. What's this "initiation" thing about Canon/Cats anyway ;)?

Over at DPreview all the newbs who showed up with new cameras kept posting really bad first pics and most of them happened to be of cats. After a while it sort of became a cliché, and then everybody started doing it everytime they got a new camera. Now it's sort of tradition.

i'm reading a lot about this camera, however the only thing that concerns me is the focusing problem it seems to have. if you don't focus on a high contrast area when shooting, the pictures will come out blurry. are any of you guys having this same problem?

It doesn't have a focusing problem, it's autofocus just isn't the greatest there is, even though it is greatly improved from what they used in the D60. The 10D uses a seven point autofocus system similar to that used in the Elan series. There has to be some contrast on whatever you're trying to focus on, that's just how autofocus works. If you are using the 10D or D60 with a 420EX or 550EX flash, or an ST-E2 transmitter, when the camera tries to autofocus the flash can be programmed to project an optical pattern on the subject allowing autofocus on low contrast surfaces. This also greatly improves autofocus speed at short distances.

There are many more people who are thrilled with this camera than are not, it's just that the ones who have a gripe are louder. Also this is the cheapest DSLR ever, and a lot of people are buying it who have no idea what they are doing yet.

thanks lirion.

what i will do is find a place that allows returns, try it out for a week, and if it does not perform up to my expectations, i'll return it.

Staples, did you try shooting pictures with this camera in low light/contrast situations. If so, please post some samples.
