Well, my 30GB 75GXP finally went to the crapper a couple of weeks ago and since then IBM has received my drive and sent a replacement. However, a big problem has occured in the midst of all this. The replacement drive was sent out on October 30 and I have yet to receive it. So, I just called IBM and the lady that answered the phone said that the drive was stuck in customs so I was like:

Me> Can you tell me where it was shipped from?
Her> It was shipped from Malaysia
Me> Do you have any idea how long it will be there?
Her> It was only suppose to be there a day or two
Me> Could I get the tracking number for it?
Her> No, it doesn't show up on the UPS website
Me> Well, thanks anyway, goodbye :(

So, what in the heck should i do? Can I do besides wait? I have RMA'ed four Maxtor HDD's within the past couple of months and have never had a problem. Replacement drives were in my hand within seven days after they received them. I will never, ever buy IBM again. :|

Malasia? Oh snap that sucks... I dunno what to say man, except just hold on a few more days. Last time I got a package from overseas that had computer stuff in it it was all broken... sorry if that's not encouraging :(

They have three weeks from when they receive your busted drive. If it's been longer than that, it's time to give them an earfull.

My Dad just RMAed a 40GB 60GXP and it only took about 10 days to get the new drive to him. YMMV.

what I did...fill out the IBm RMA on their website. Then they send a NEW drive before you send yours. You can then attempt to get info from your old one to the new one and then send your old one back in their packaging :)

Thanks for the replies guys, anyone else have an opinion? I think I will give them two more weeks and if I don't have it by then, someone is getting a tongue lashing. ;)

I sent back a 45GB 15gb per platter 75GXP and received back a 40gb per platter 60gb 120GXP (I think it's 40gb per platter)

I was happy with that.

I'd been told a couple of times, through email and on phone, that they do NOT do cross shipping. I have not actually went through the process of filling out the RMA form on the website yet, lazy.

they dont cross ship ever
They did until the 75GXP's started dropping like flies and didn't have enough drives to cross-ship. What you get as a replacement depends on what they have in stock - some people get new drives, some get repaired drives. Sometimes you have to wait while they repair more drives.

Well, I sure hope I get a 120GXP, cause it sure is taking a while. Hell, they might be repairing my old one at this rate. :(

I just recently RMA'd a 45GB drive. Filled out RMA on website and had to ship first. Took 'em about 3 weeks. Sent me the fixed drive and not a new one :( ...had a little orange sticker that said "serviced parts" or something like that.
