Yeah i am gonna get a road bike, i have been checkin out local clubs and they do some awesome rides... So i am gonna be one of the ones that goes around in those big packs that block traffic.......

Sweet man. Love my road bike but love my mountain bike too. It's good times. I don't understand the bicycle hate. I guess all the fat asses driving by smoking cigarettes and eating a double cheese burger can't stand to see someone fit and enjoying themselves.

Or we can't stand to see one dipshit on a bike holding up traffic for 50 cars stuck behind him as he hogs the whole lane going 5 mph.
 
Maybe it's different where you live but here in Minneapolis, my friends and I and most riders I encounter ride single file and stay to the right. If you can't figure out how to mve over a foot or two then there's nohing I can do for you.

Is everybody really in that big of a hurry all the time? Christ, slow down a bit and enjoy the view!

I should also point out that Minneapolis comes in second in terms of the percentage of people who commute to work in the city. There's more than a couple of us out there and somehow people survive.

Living in a major metropolitan center has made me loathe the very core of almost every cyclist on the road. 90% of them don't pay attention to traffic signals, stop signs, yield signs, turn lanes, or basically anything that governs conduct on the road. Also a lot of them seem perfectly content to pop onto the sidewalk and play chicken with pedestrians if they decide they can't get through on the street for whatever reason.

Most people on bikes in this city make the average driver here appear courteous and well mannered and that's quite the accomplishment.
 
Get like a 21 speed bike not a fixie. With the speeds it gives you better gear options. ex: slow gear for up hill and fast gear for once you hit a good speed.

Well whatever they're at now, like I say, been a while. Mine is a 21 speed. You have 2 gear shifters, one that goes to 7 and one that goes to 3 for 21 different positions on the gear wheel. I remember my first bike was a 5 speed. That little bike was fun though.

I ride, but nothing pisses me off more than seeing two cyclists riding side by side down a pretty much one track lane (wide enough for 2 cars if they go onto the verge).

The reason most cyclists and motorcyclists get hit is not because car drivers don't look/pay attention, it's because they are complete and utter idiots who WANT to end up in some sort of accident. Or at least, given the way almost every cyclist and motorcyclist I've seen has acted, it seems like that must be the case.

A lot of the times when I piss off cars its because I'm anticipating the road ahead and how cars are going to react to it. For example there is a two lane road I go on frequently that is very busy. After a light, there is a steep hill and the road goes to one lane. There are bike arrows on the right side of the road.

When the road turns into one lane, the sidewalk curb curves in halfway up the uphill block. So the bike arrows on the right side of the road are given a curved path (there is not a lined path, just intermittent arrows). A key rule of cycling in traffic is to be predictable, so forcing bikes on a crooked path when cars are merging together is unsafe. A car trying to merge is going to find a bike being pushed into its right side by the crooked curb.

So I take the right lane as I approach the light, before the road goes to one lane. I do this because the middle of the right lane lines up straight with where the bike lane is 100 feet up the road, making my path straight. Instead of being forced into the road by the curb, I can make a controlled entry into the narrow road by taking the lane earlier.

This seems to piss off people who have to wait no more than a few seconds to pass me. I find a lot of motorist to be comically impatient. Sorry asshole I can't afford the $300 / month it costs to park downtown, so yes I am riding a bike to work so I can make a living. You having to slow down to 20mph is a consequence of us having chosen to liven in a crowded metropolitan area, get over it.

10 speed cassettes are what you get on most mid-high end road bikes these days. Only the cheapest road bikes come with 8 or 9 speed cassettes. I have two road bikes, one is 10x2 (10 cogs in the rear and 2 chainrings on the crankset) and the other is 9x2. The only reason I didn't go with a triple (crankset) is that the doubles typically shift better.

The trouble is people only remember the idiots they see who are doing something dumb. Those people are the ones who stand out in their memory...not the hundreds or thousands of other riders who are courteous and do nothing to garner more than a passing glance. The fact that some of you can't seem to grasp this fact makes me seriously question your intelligence.
