linky

From what i got, it looks like everything i had uploaded is gone. We have to recreate everything. Something is very fishy with this whole thing. They left all of their data behind and rebuilt their company? BS, something else happened and they arent telling us.

I'm really starting to hate seeing these Cyberwings bashing threads. come on... i paid $3.90 for a yearly account and so far, i believe i've gotten $3.90 out of it. the rest is just gravy. I for one am sticking with Cyberwings through these hard times no matter what. They have always been straightforward, and all the times i've talked to them, they have always been very professional. Plus the fact that they even respond is a plus.

Go Cyberwings!

Here's what I think.

About 4 years ago, I came across a notice in a newsgroup that a company was seeking programmers to assist in the development of a new free operating system. So I went to the site and checked it out. Thought it was the coolest thing in the world.

So I hopped onto the band wagon, and after exchanging lengthy emails with the "President" of this company, I was elected to help create the grahical interface. I did a lot of research, made a lot of plans, communicated with a lot of people, even created a pseduo-plan for a new type of file system.

Well I won't get into the gnitty-gritty, but the "President" and his "Partner" turned out to be a bunch of kids mooching off everyone. The website he had, was made by another web designer who volunteered his services. This president was a 14 year old kid in Nigeria. He managed to get another guy on his team who programmed an OS kernel before. His partner was a slightly older kid who did some web programming work and had a website domain similar to his, which is how they met.

We all got screwed because this kid did such a good job of conjuring up something that wasn't real.

A few weeks ago somebody suggested Cyberwings as a good server to sign up with. I looked at their site, which posted info about moving to another location over the holiday. I waited not to sign up until after. After reading the stuff on CWSTATUS.com, reading the BS on the chat room logs, etc. I have come this conclusion:

Shawn, i.e., CEO of Cyberwings, is just some kid who has older servers setup in his apartment probably running on frame relay.

My guess is he couldn't pay his bill, or maybe the "move" he talked about was a residential move, and the reason the servers have been down is because he couldn't get a connection to his home fast enough - and everything is slow when it's up because he is on Cable modem or something.

And I'm also guessing he couldn't afford any backup software/hardware and maybe dropped a server during the move or tried upgrading the OS and accidentally wiped out the drive - who knows, but just reading how this guy talks reminds so much of this other guy that screwed me - it just sounds like his stature isn't legitimate.

In other words, you guys were owned. ;)

Well alrightythen. I moved from my free hosting because of serious downtime. I didn't know that the people who ran my previous host would be running Cyberwings.

First off, let me start by saying that I used to be a proud Cyberwings customer. I used to think they were "cool", and stood by them in hardship. But when I go on vacation, and suddenly my site (along with cyberwings themselves) goes down, and I have to come to forums to find out about it, I became pretty pissed. Thanks Shawn for taking the time to email your customers to tell them what was going on.

Now, more then ever, I believe that Shawn is keeping the true circumstances from us due to his inability to retrieve "his" servers from the Maine DC (LightShip).

So now, according to the new release, I have to rebuild my site from the ground up. Nice work. Nice work...

CyberWings work address and "CEO Shawn White's" home address are listed in a few Hot Deals threads, search for CyberWings but you'll have to wade through hundreds of posts to find the info.

i get the feeling that Shawn is trying to convince himself that he is CEO, considering the way he refers to himself. ;)

someone should challenge his ownership of that domain then, and pronto. If the info is fake on the whois other people can steal it from him; happened to my brothoer.

That's the best way to go. I do all my editing on the computer, and incrementally upload it to the host. Each revision I backup the folder. I then keep a copy backed up on zipdisk. Then about every 6 months I back everything to CD-R.

Never do your editing directly on the server.
