As with "Spank the monkey" or "Flog the dolphin", as long as the job gets done, your choice of phrase matters naught. 🙂

Holy shit this is weird, my wife and I were just talking about this earlier in the day. I said I was gonna go mow the lawn and my three year old asked what a lawn was. My wife said in a very smart tone, "it's what your Dad calls it when he cuts the grass". So I said to my son, "ask your Mom what I use to cut the grass". That pretty much ended the debate.

Obviously the correct answer is "mow the lawn" since I've never heard of someone using a "grass cutter" to "cut the grass".

That's a genius approach! 😀

It's not a question of correct or wrong. A lawnmower cuts grass so you can say cut the grass. If you have a breadmaker can you only say "I'm making bread instead" of "baking bread"?
