I don't see how I got owned by Anubis. I openly admitted I work at Best Buy. He just happens to hate the place. Just a small coincidence. :D

Don't think of me as the opposition, if I was a customer, I wouldn't like the place any more than any of you. We're out of stock of practically everything, we markup accessories sometimes 1000%, and we're usually understaffed so there's never anyone around to help people. But as a job for myself, I really can't agree with all the ranting ex-employees from bestbuysux.org. I get paid well for a kid my age in this area to sit on my ass and fuss with computers. I don't mind it at all and I work with some good guys.

Besides, I'm leaving in five weeks anyway. :p

actually i was being totally sarcastic, and it was a joke, i dont really have anything against BB, i just thought it would be funny because many peopel dont like BB, and its even funnier that you happen to actually work there, funny coencidence to me anyway

Uhhh, you are a COMPLETE asshole for saying you've never heard of 57K modems if you simply replied with "we don't have them". If you said "do you mean 56K modems?" thats different, but if you just flat out were a bitch to him because he isnt as smart(and clearly cool) as you, maybe you don't deserve to be shot, but certainly to be fired for being an asshole.

If I recall correctly, he told me it was a very rare item BEFORE he said what it was, so I was already thinking he wasn't just making a mistake, that he ACTUALLY meant 57k. So this guy wasn't just being dumb, he actually knew there were 56k modems, and also knew that he wanted a 57k, because maybe that have that overseas or something? Either way, because I knew he wasn't making a mistake, I think I just said "No, we don't, we do have 56k modems, though, I'm not quire sure I've ever heard of a 57k." It might've went slightly differently, though.

Either way, busting out the F-bomb is uncalled for unless the store has REALLY done you wrong, and on top of that, saying I need to be shot? He must have the mentality and brain-power of a 12-year-old.

(now waiting for the obligatory "No, YOU, archommus, have the mentality of a 12-year-old)

3. However, I do not understand why people hate the employee for this situation. It is not the employee's fault for knowing sh!t about computers. It is the management's and corporate's fault for not getting proper training programs into place to educate their employees. All these people did was wanted a job, and got one. I'm sure they figured, "Well, I don't know much about computers, but I'm sure I'll learn." Well guess what, you got taught jack. But again, not the unknowledgeable employee's fault.

Ok, I have to take issue with your opinion. It IS the employee's fault for not educating themselves. There's this wonderful thing called the "internet" which has loads of information on the "World Wide Web". Nothing is preventing the brain dead salesmen from accessing some computer sites (like Anandtech, for instance) and learning about what they are pushing onto customers.

Yes, management may suck in not providing training, but that does not in any way release them [the salesmen] from any responsibility in training themselves. Of course, given the lack of motivation to excel which is seemingly intrinsic to Best Buy employees, I am hardly surprised. It just means that they are at the pinnacle of their employment capability.

I applied for a part-time job at the local BB in pc sales. I interviewed with the manager....

"So you work full-time @ IBM...what do you do there?"
I tell him and it's like woosh...right over his head
"Wow, so you know alot about computers"
I reply "a fair amount"

"So what do you think of ESP's?"
I tell him that they are almost pure profit for whatever store sells them especially something that depreciates as much as computers, but I have no problem pushing them if that is required.
He disagrees and tells me that as expensive as computers are it is foolish to not buy ESP's.

We talk more about computers and I become completely aware that this PC manager knows less than the typical 8 y/o about computers.
He says great the store manager should be contacting me soon to setup a second interview.
(WTF, 2 interviews for a sh!tty p/t job at worstbuy?)

*crickets, tumbleweed*
Never hear from them again.

Got a job @ a home improvement store and been there for almost a year and a half now.

Why were you applying for these jobs if you work full time at IBM?

1. I do work at Best Buy, har har.

2. I do indeed work around a lot of salesman (of which I am not) who really know nothing about computers. They couldn't even tell you what a PCI slot is. So I understand why people make fun of the place.

4. As for the situation, it was on the phone, and the guy asked me if we carried 57k modems. Yes, that's right, 57k. I told him I had never heard of them. He told me he was British. He didn't say I'm from Europe, or I need this part for in another country, he just said "I'm British." I was thinking, okay..., but the fact is we don't have that. He even called it a rare part himself, not sure why he got so huffed up about it. Then he asked me if we had a T3 connector. I asked, like for a T3 internet connection. He said yes, for the back of his computer. I said that is simply an ethernet port. He said, No, I need to convert from ethernet to T3. I told him that was not the case, and an "ethernet to T3" adapter was not something we had. That is when he said (read this in a British accent) "GOD, I hate this fvcking store. You guys don't have ANYTHING. You all need to be SHOT...", at which point I hung up on him.

So I would say that's a 20 out of 10 on the unjustified scale.

Maybe it was a prank call. Pretty stupid one if it was, but it happens.
