Let me make some points.

1. I do work at Best Buy, har har.

2. I do indeed work around a lot of salesman (of which I am not) who really know nothing about computers. They couldn't even tell you what a PCI slot is. So I understand why people make fun of the place.

3. However, I do not understand why people hate the employee for this situation. It is not the employee's fault for knowing sh!t about computers. It is the management's and corporate's fault for not getting proper training programs into place to educate their employees. All these people did was wanted a job, and got one. I'm sure they figured, "Well, I don't know much about computers, but I'm sure I'll learn." Well guess what, you got taught jack. But again, not the unknowledgeable employee's fault.

4. As for the situation, it was on the phone, and the guy asked me if we carried 57k modems. Yes, that's right, 57k. I told him I had never heard of them. He told me he was British. He didn't say I'm from Europe, or I need this part for in another country, he just said "I'm British." I was thinking, okay..., but the fact is we don't have that. He even called it a rare part himself, not sure why he got so huffed up about it. Then he asked me if we had a T3 connector. I asked, like for a T3 internet connection. He said yes, for the back of his computer. I said that is simply an ethernet port. He said, No, I need to convert from ethernet to T3. I told him that was not the case, and an "ethernet to T3" adapter was not something we had. That is when he said (read this in a British accent) "GOD, I hate this fvcking store. You guys don't have ANYTHING. You all need to be SHOT...", at which point I hung up on him.

So I would say that's a 20 out of 10 on the unjustified scale.

So he didn't say "you" needed to be shot . . . he was talking about Beast Buy . . . and most of us agree - they need to be put out of their miserable bloodsucking existance.

Glad you're ok. :)

Well tell him he must've been thinking of 56k modems and not 57k modems. How hard was that?

"No sorry, you must be referring to 56k modems because that is all we have. To my knowledge, there are no such things in this world as 57k modems"

Explain to him about the T3 thing that its an impossibility, and you need a device, etc etc.

"Sorry it is impossible to connect a T3 to an ethernet port directly without some sort of device to convert the two connectors. If this is what you're asking for, then I have to say we do not carry this item"

How hard? You need to be shot.

No, it's the managements fault for paying minimum wage to 10 anybodys instead of paying a premium to 7 employees that knwo what hte hell they are talking about.

And the story, awesome.

My customers tell me that all the time. Of course I do work in a body armor factory though.

Ok, I have to take issue with your opinion. It IS the employee's fault for not educating themselves. There's this wonderful thing called the "internet" which has loads of information on the "World Wide Web". Nothing is preventing the brain dead salesmen from accessing some computer sites (like Anandtech, for instance) and learning about what they are pushing onto customers.

Yes, management may suck in not providing training, but that does not in any way release them [the salesmen] from any responsibility in training themselves. Of course, given the lack of motivation to excel which is seemingly intrinsic to Best Buy employees, I am hardly surprised. It just means that they are at the pinnacle of their employment capability.

I don't see how I got owned by Anubis. I openly admitted I work at Best Buy. He just happens to hate the place. Just a small coincidence. :D

Don't think of me as the opposition, if I was a customer, I wouldn't like the place any more than any of you. We're out of stock of practically everything, we markup accessories sometimes 1000%, and we're usually understaffed so there's never anyone around to help people. But as a job for myself, I really can't agree with all the ranting ex-employees from bestbuysux.org. I get paid well for a kid my age in this area to sit on my ass and fuss with computers. I don't mind it at all and I work with some good guys.

Besides, I'm leaving in five weeks anyway. :p
