Will he OC the cpu for you?

Exactly how much hard drive space do you need. I think Outpost has a Seagate 400GB for $100 shipped.

Do you need a monitor as well? If you have one that you are going to use, what kind is it, what resolution?

$2000 should get you a really nice system.

agreed. $2000 will build a hell of a system.

tell us more:
what will you be using it for? gaming? rendering? editing?
are you willing to overclock? does your friend know about overclocking?
what hardware do you already have?

My mother board selection would be the EVGA 680i here... 250.00$

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188013

Ram would have to be 2 sticks of 2x2gigs ram (4gigs) like this. so i could upgrade in the future.- 400.00$

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122

cpu would be the e6600- 300.00$

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115003

Harddrive would be the seagate 500gb for 145.00$

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148135

OCZ gamestream 700 watt psu 140.00$- 35.00$ rebate= 105.00$

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341002

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130071

1700.00$

You could go with a 2 gig ram setup and save 200.00$
Then get a 450.00$ monitor and a 50.00$ dvd burner.

Total 2,000.00$

Use the money you have on the rig hardware and upgrade the monitor at a later point. I would keep that 2GB of RAM as a minimum for today's systems. I would also add a Raptor to put your OS and games on. Use the other HD for your media.

No it's not really needed, but for a high end system like the one I showed you, you should take full advantage of it's capabilities. Go for a good monitor that has a resolution or 1680 x 1050 or so. Your video card will easily push those pixels.

Heres a great monitor for the price for 324.00$

I would love to say that AMD is the better chip, but for now Intel is easily the better cpu. So, since you are buying now I would go with Intel. It's what I recommend for my clients.
