Hey sorry if this post is in the wrong spot i am new to the forums.

I am looking to bild a custom pc i have a friend who will build it if i get the parts my range is about $2000 a little above or below can anyone help me pick parts or give sugesstions?

should i go for intel or amd? and which ones

I am into media i use up lost of hard drive space i also play games so id like a decent graphics card

can someone please tell me some parts that are worth getting

Will he OC the cpu for you?

Exactly how much hard drive space do you need. I think Outpost has a Seagate 400GB for $100 shipped.

Do you need a monitor as well? If you have one that you are going to use, what kind is it, what resolution?

$2000 should get you a really nice system.

agreed. $2000 will build a hell of a system.

what will you be using it for? gaming? rendering? editing?
are you willing to overclock? does your friend know about overclocking?
what hardware do you already have?

My mother board selection would be the EVGA 680i here... 250.00$

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188013

Ram would have to be 2 sticks of 2x2gigs ram (4gigs) like this. so i could upgrade in the future.- 400.00$

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122

cpu would be the e6600- 300.00$

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115003

Harddrive would be the seagate 500gb for 145.00$

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148135

OCZ gamestream 700 watt psu 140.00$- 35.00$ rebate= 105.00$

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341002

Thermaltake Armor full tower sli ready case- 169.00$-30.00 rebate=140.00$

video card EVGA 8800gts 389.00$-30.00$rebate= 360.00$

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130071

1700.00$

You could go with a 2 gig ram setup and save 200.00$
Then get a 450.00$ monitor and a 50.00$ dvd burner.

Total 2,000.00$

Use the money you have on the rig hardware and upgrade the monitor at a later point. I would keep that 2GB of RAM as a minimum for today's systems. I would also add a Raptor to put your OS and games on. Use the other HD for your media.

No it's not really needed, but for a high end system like the one I showed you, you should take full advantage of it's capabilities. Go for a good monitor that has a resolution or 1680 x 1050 or so. Your video card will easily push those pixels.

Heres a great monitor for the price for 324.00$

hey okay im gunna order the parts tonite or tomorrow but should i really go with that intel cpu i have always used amd and i kno alot of people who say amd is better is it really better? is there a better amd cpu this this intel for a similar price?

I would love to say that AMD is the better chip, but for now Intel is easily the better cpu. So, since you are buying now I would go with Intel. It's what I recommend for my clients.

hey everything but the case came yesterday. I looked more inot the case i did not kno it was 35 pounds thats pretty crazy.Must be one hell of a case really big too. I will let you know how everything comes out
