Dead end jobs suck... I mean all I can think about is how I can move up or move into something more forfilling (intellectually-wise). Is this normal for a 23 recent college grad?

I'm sure you've heard it 1000x but enjoy college while it lasts. I hated it (actually just the projects, deadlines, finals, etc..) but college is great. You only get 4-6 years of it compared to 35-40 years of working.

You don't need to feel satisfied with your job, but be thankful for what you do have.... There are countless thousands that WISH they had your problem.

That being said... I changed from a miserable career to my current career about 3 years ago, and I can't even begin to explain how much it means to have a job that you enjoy.

Oh yeah, I love my job. :D

hey at least in your bar job you meet interesting people... right now my job is in a test lab. I'm stuck with the same group of people, all of which aren't the least bit interesting. As for upward mobility there is some but I'm not sure I want to do it at this company.

I meet drunk people at my Bar job. Most are cool, some are female and very very fit, and some are very angry....

i do drycleaning/spot removal/special item cleaning/maintenance/some supervising at my fathers drycleaning plant. easy work, so-so money. ill end up doing one of two things (maybe both)

getting a degree in IT and trying to do network administration.
buying the drycleaning plant.

im more interesting in IT, but my dad does basically nothing short of sometimes helping with maintenance and mangement (And not that often) and i know he clears 70k/yr. in fact, he has enough free time that he started a small used car lot next door to give him something to do.

maybe ill go for buying the dc plant and set up some server hosting or something on the side down the road.

3 hour commute? I don't think I could ever do that. but if you love your job I can see sacrificing 3 hours... but per day!?

QA Engineer (title, but I don't engineer anything), they're pushing for me to do more for this department because I think they want me to be a lead here. Problem is I'd rather be in software development. I have a CS degree.

"computer stuff"? like tech support or selling actual product? many of my friends are unemployeed and can do like tech support/installs/troubleshooting as a small side business. Just wondering how they can start something like this up.

A year ago, I left corporate life. Well, I didn't really leave - I was given a severance package and the ability to also collect unemployment during my career search. For years, I would think about what I would do if I were not stuck in an office. Well, since the career market is still quite anemic, I decided to take on some work in areas that used to be my hobby areas. The result ?? I couldn't be happier. I get up about 8:00 A.M., have my coffee, walk my daughter to the bus stop and get to work about 10:00 A.M. The work is physically demanding - so there's no chance of me falling asleep - like might have happened at my desk in an office. I can wear essentially any comfortable clothing that I desire to wear. I can take breaks when I need them ... and my focus on the work that I'm doing is way better than I could have ever desired while working in an office doing project work.

What am I doing? Home maintenance and renovation work. My estimates are competitive, but my clients love the work that I do. I'm challenged because I can see a project from the very beginning until it is fully completed. I never thought I could have so much satisfaction in my life. :)
