Curious: balding?

I just turned 30, so I've had a lot to think about recently. My dad has a full head of hair at 66, but my mom's side of the family had hair loss pretty early. I still feel like my hair is pretty thick with what I see on a daily basis, but I decided to see what my crown looked like today taking some pictures and was surprised at how it looked:

This is after a haircut, where the sides of my hair were cut with a "2.5" razor. So it's relatively short. Is the crown supposed to have a little bit of empty space because of the way the hair moves, especially with hair that short, or is this definitely beginning balding? Would just be good to know. I've never noticed any hair in my comb or anything.

I read somewhere that hairloss comes from the mother side. But I guess it's not true because I'm losing my hair and it's the opposite in my family.

Your hair does look thinner than normal in those pics. But some people have sparser hair naturally, and varying levels of thickness, and different hair "behaviours". So you should take pics yearly or so to see if there is a change. Dig up some pic of when you were young.

The gene that causes baldness is passed from the mother to the son, same as color blindness (I was lucky and got both). I have always heard a good rule of thumb is to look at your maternal grandfather. If he was bald, you have a good chance of being bald as well. That doesn't mean it will always be 100%, just something to look at.

Looks like some thinning going on. Not uncommon at all to start at about your age. A lot of guys start thinning much younger. If you're concerned about it, you might want to get on some kind of regimine asap. But before you do, do your research into all the options. A good site for this is linked below.

Funny. My dad is bald and my mom + grandma have thin hair -- can't tell who to blame.

Oh ya, I'm balding hardcore. Started noticing it when I was 21. It got bad enough that I had to strategically comb my hair every morning for ten minutes when I hit 23. At 24, I just shaved it all. Have never been happier. Two for one deal actually, I got rid of the balding (just "bald" now) and the dandruff that no amount of Nizoral or H&S could take care of.

It looks a little sparse in the very back too, which doesn't go bald (at least due to male pattern baldness) .. so it might just be your short haircut + harsh camera flash making it look thin. Look at your hairline at your temples and if it hasn't receded more than an inch or two, then you're fine

Yep you're balding. You'll be a friar before your 40. Your only hope is to cut off your balls now. It's the only way to be sure you'll keep your hair.

No one at all in my mothers family or grand parents or anyone is bald. Definitely came from my Dad's side. History of baldness in everyone on his side. Science is wrong all the time they are constantly changing what they believe. Doesn't take a scientist to tell it's overwhelming bald DNA came from my Dad's side

some people have naturally thin hair, a old vs new pic would help.

but it looks pretty obvious whats going on, nothing you can do about it.

You may wish to take a Biotin tablet (with Keratin). Also, read up on the benefits of the application of Minoxidil -- something that works for many people. It is best considered before someone is too far gone, in balding terms.

I've heard it comes from your uncles on your moms side.

Every man in my family is bald or balding... Except my dad. I started balding around the age of 22, just the first steps. I am now 28 and it is extremely noticable. I just do a close buzz cut for now and will shave in the next few years.

I don't care much though. Sometimes it would be nice to have a nice head of hair but this is the hand I'm dealt, no biggie.

Does the same person cut your hair? You could just ask them...

I have a double-crown and it looks like a bald spot, but the guy who cuts it says it hasn't changed in the some three decades he's been cutting it. Just how I'm sewn together.

Start going to the same big titted gal each time and ask her if she's noticed a change in say, 6 months.

Try one simple home remedy for hair loss-

Take cinnamon powder then add honey and apply the mixture to your scalp. Leave it for 15 minutes then rinse it. To see the result follow this procedure for consecutive 3 months.
