I've seen a lot of other people do these and they seem to keep them motivated, so I'm going to give this a try.

I'm very unhappy with my current health situation. I'm by no means fat, or unhealthy, but I'm far from being fit and leading a healthy lifestyle. That will catch up with me later in age, so its a lot better to address it now.

I'm 5'10 about 170 pounds, 25 years old. I have some belly fat that I need to address. I also eat/drink ridiculously unhealthy foods. Soda Drinks, Fast Food, lots of sugary products. Pretty much stuff that's bad for you. Unfortunately I am allergic to fresh fruits and many vegetables if they are fresh. (Lettuce, Apples, Oranges etc... I can't eat any of that 🙁 ) I also have a severe hatred for water that I'm going to have to get over. I drink a ton, but its a ton of bad stuff. Energy drinks, Pepsi etc...

I workout occasionally right now. Mostly swimming twice a week (although its gotten cold, so I've stopped doing that right now). I jog once a week if I'm lucky right now. But I plan to address that as well.

I have a couple of goals.

1. As I stated above, I need to lose my belly fat. That's the first thing I'll address. It should be easy enough to do through proper diet and exercise. I plan to cut out drinking of ANYTHING but water, lemonade on rare occasions and Orange/Apple Juice in mornings. No soft drinks, period. I will also cut out white bread from my diet and switch to wheat bread. No more fast food. Lots of home cooked meals.

2. I want to learn to box. My wife is buying me a punching bag for Christmas and I'll be hanging it in my garage. This will be the focus of most of my workouts. I will be waking up early in the morning and working on the heavy bag, jumping rope, clap pushups (for hand speed) shadow boxing and crunches. I may also puchase some dumbbells and so some lifting.

Once they weather warms up a little bit (florida, shouldn't be long) I'll resume my swimming. I'll mix that in with boxing to keep things fresh and work different muscles. Swimming generally consists of 4 laps, followed by 10 sprints and ending with another 4 laps. In between the three segments I mix in situps and pushups. This usually takes me around 45 minutes to an hour to complete and is fairly taxing on me currently. I hope to increase the length of segments as time passes, but I don't have a specific goal in mind, just progress.

3. By the end of 2011 I'd like to have the physical fitness to compete in an amateur boxing match. I don't expect my technique to be there from being self-taught, but once I get the basics down and have improved my fitness enough I will look at seeking a bit of training from a gym locally.

I don't want to be a boxer, I just want to learn to box and have one fight sometime in 2012. Just for fun.

As my fitness progresses I will begin mixing in weight training in the gym near my house as well. I'm more concerned about weight loss and general fitness first though.

Most of the training outlined above I will not be able to start for a couple of more weeks, but the diet starts today. I am currently finishing the lost sugary drink in the house and will not purchase anymore. I'm going to stick to healthy foods and lots of water from here on out.

I shouldn't have any problem updating this post once a day, just to keep myself honest and on track. If I don't update than I'm slacking on my diet or working out and I need to be called out on it!

Allergic to lettuce? Seriously?

Heh, yea seriously. I know it sucks. I love ceaser salads but if I eat them my throat starts to swell up.

Alright so yesterday I drank lots of water, ate a publix sub on white bread with turkey. I had mayonnaise on it, which in hind site I probably shouldn't have put on it. For dinner I ate the other half of the sub.

This morning I woke up early at about 7 am and had a bowl of cereal. Probably not the most healthy thing, but I don't think its horrible for me. I have to figure out some better/more healthy breakfast foods that I like.

I figure I'd update this thread. It's been about two weeks since I've started. I've completely cut out any soda's from my diet. My eating has become a lot healthier. My portions are smaller and the things I am eating are sugarless (mostly) low on carbs, mostly non-processed things. The worst I've eaten over the past two weeks would be a hotdog (for lunch today) a burger over the weekend and a couple slices of pizza last week. But the rest of those day's I ate light breakfast/dinners.

I think just cutting out the soda's will have a huge effect on my caloric intake. I do drink apple juice or orange juice in the mornings and sometimes with dinner. I just hate water so much. I try to get apple juice that is natural sugars and lower in carbs.

As for exercising I've been running two miles a day for about a week now. I am taking off Saturdays and Sundays. The first two-three days I was running at nearly a 9 minute/mile pace. That's HORRID. In HS I used to run around a 6 minute mile, so I've got a long ways to go to get into good shape. Today I ran at around a 7:45 pace, so I'm progressing nicely. I hope to get around 7 minutes in the next week or two. 7 minutes isn't great, but its acceptable initially. 9 minutes is just embarrassing.

One thing I have noticed though is I seem to be hungry all the time. I'm not really sure if I'm just not eating enough? I'm trying to watch my calories and get around 2000 calories a day. Based on my exercise that should give me around a 500cal deficit. Hoping to get rid of a couple of pounds of stomach fat before I gain healthy weight. Its difficult to keep track of exactly how many calories I'm taking in though, especially if I don't cook it myself.

All in all though, this new diet isn't that horrible. I do hate vegetables though! I've been trying to eat those but they are god awful!
