The embargo has long outlived it's usefulness, I know quite a few people that have visited & several that have met Fidel (before he got so sick).

One of the folks was a doctor & attractive, she said Fidel had his hands all over her

Gee, so we have you painting the "Michael Moore is a god picture" and everything that Castro says is true. OTOH, we have the exiles in Southern Flordia who publish "therealcuba.com" I would imagine both are true. The question is which is more common for the peon in Cuba?

Say someone visited Hollywood and said it was great, but then someone else visited NYC circa 1980 and said this place sucks.....

Cuba is such a paradise that people are willing to try and float on a packing pallet or piece of styrofoam 90 miles across ocean waters to get to the hellish nightmare that is Florida to escape Castro's wonderland.

Agreed, but it makes no sense that we have an embargo against Cuba & consider China a most favored trading partner.

You've just exemplified why I had a better time in Cuba than I have ever had in the US. I've visited the "touristy" parts of the States, and Cuba was *way* nicer. Oh, and the people were 10 times friendlier. You might want to work on that.

I scuba dived over a coral reef and it was absolutely incredible. We were out on the catamaran...they anchored it then threw some sort of food into the water. We jumped in and there had to be 10,000 fish in our immediate vicinity, including a barracuda that looked to be around 3' long. The water was about as warm as a warm bath. :)

Yes, and people are willing to pay the US government taxes for 5 years after they leave for another country just so they can escape.

Apparently you didn't really understand his point. Cuba is built up only in the tourist areas. Take a ride off the main path and see what it gets you. You are foolish and naive, or you were trolling.

from jcuadrado, a Cuban living in the US:

yeah...the places where the tourists go may be pretty...but if you go to the some of the towns there you'll be surprised how much of a sheet hole it is...everything is rationed out...hardly any food or anything for the people. Hell they even ration out the electricity there to only a few hours a day.

Don't be fooled...Castro only let you see what he wanted you to see...that place is hell. My family constantly has to send medicine.

I'm Cuban and wouldn't go there just because I wouldn't want to give my dollar to that son of a biatch Castro...I'd go to Key West or the Bahamas or somewhere else..

Wow, that paints a clear picture.

I lived in the Miami area most of my life.

Theres a reason that hundreds of thousands of Cubans risk their lives every day to illegally immigrate to America, if it were so great there as you claim/only saw, then why is it that so many flee?

Perhaps things are better now than they once were. My hotel was a few miles from the closest point between the US and Cuba; it's apparently where they try to do that. I didn't see anyone attempting it. BTW, I don't think 100,000 people try to leave Cuba in a year, let alone a day.

Cuba probably was hell for alot of people during the revolution. I can only imagine working hard my whole life only to have all of my stuff expropriated. I would be angry and hate Castro, too.

What the hell are you talking about? There is no escaping from the US, if I want to leave I can do so anytime I want so long as the country I am trying to enter allows me in. I do not have to get permission from the US government to leave.

Well, there must be alot of 'main paths' then. They were running tours to just about every major city in Cuba out of my resort, and I heard nothing but good things. One tour visits Havana which houses 3 million of the 11 million people living there. Others go to Trinidad (the city, not the country), Pinar Del Rio, and through the countryside in a jeep.

Does it not seem curious to you that there would be such a discrepancy in the quality of life in a communist country?

You have to pay the US government income taxes for 5 years after you expatriate. Trust me, we have alot of Vietnam war dodgers living here, that's what they went through.

Agreed. I am very surprised to see that this troll fool managed to accrue 7650+ posts without being permanently banned. And to think this is after he's been on the forums for seven years. I'd hate to think what sort of nimrod he was back then.

I'm pretty sure the insults you guys are spewing out are more of a bannable offence than anything I've said.
