Perhaps they are criminals. Maybe they have a skewed impression of the US, and think that they will be rich and famous if they go there. I'm sure some people in Cuba can't stand the lack of economic/political freedom. To me, those would be the only reasons to live.

perhaps you're an idiot who is too enamored with "paradise" to realize there's something more troubling behind it.

No! That's a very valid way to look at it.

Just like a spring break visit to Cancun is an accurate predictor of how life is in the rest of Mexico.

Wow, Cuba beaches are most attractive. What a pity flights from Europe to Cuba are so expensive, good to know you need no visa though ;)

Those certainly aren't bathtubs. :p

They are good with cars there. Just about every car I saw was vintage from the 50's.
don't confuse castro not letting them have newer cars with them being good with cars

LOL!! Classic car collecting is now a national hobby in cuba. Imagine a country so well off that most people can afford vintage automobiles from the 1950's, and are talented enough to keep them running. Man, what a paradise. They are master boat builders too, which must be another favorite past time in Cuba. Hell, I bet their pretty good carpenters too. They can fashion any old piece of scrap into a new roof. Damn they have it good.

I'm pretty sure you need a visa.

How much do the flights cost? My entire trip was $900CDN including all taxes and fees. My resort was a 4-star, all-inclusive.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Bush is gone in a year...try getting rid of Castro...actually you'd die trying. Why don't you read up about all the atrocities that have occurred in Cuba before making ignorant statements. This ranks up there with those dumb asses that where Che shirts.

you obviously are very ignorant of both governments then, or are simply a commie through and through. so which is it... possibly both?

better yet. just take it to P&N.
In Cuba I could live with a cleaner conscience than I could in the US. I have enormous issues with the Iraq war.

You should go ahead and move there.

I don't think too many people here understand any of the issues talked about so far in this thread.

Actually I don't think Castro will be around much longer than Bush; he's really sick.

WTF is wrong with you? I have been to Disney World and I am positive that is what the rest of the country is like.

You didn't start the war. You're defined by your own actions, not by those of your government.

but i think op has issues where his tax dollars go and the impression that foreigners have about americans

Agreed, but it makes no sense that we have an embargo against Cuba & consider China a most favored trading partner.

It's about how China provides much of our products cheaply...Cuba doesn't offer any kind of volume items that would affect the economy.

That said we are feeding China very well. They have bought up something like 1 trillion dollars of our debt. To me, I would not want an 'enemy' holding my marker.

It just goes to show most of politics is about what's profitable and not what is right.

I vividly remember as a 13 year old being shown some of the stuff Cubans had floated across to Key West on when touring the Navy base there. It really brought home to me what kind of desperation people must be living in that they would chance sharks and whatever else to try and escape Cuba on items I wouldn't chance crossing the Potomac River on. I do think the embargo is a relic of the cold war but understand the politics behind why it is not likely to change until Castro is worm food.

holy shit, what a fucking moronic statement. Get the fuck out then.

Agreed, GTFO of America if you are that stupid. We don't want to mix your genes into our only sorta-homogeneous cultural stew.

he does not live in your country

why does everyone here assume people live in the US? the internet is global.

Cooba must be a wonderful place...at least according to the OP...

BUT, if it's SO wonderful, why do so many people die trying to escape?

Does it have its beautiful areas? No doubt...it is a Caribbean island after all...and once Castro dies, I expect to see things return to the way it was in the 50's...The wealthy will have huge estates controlling much of the coastline, the local people will end up as "servants"(maids, gardeners, etc.) for the rich, the island will have dozens if not hundreds of mob-run casinos, whorehouses, dope peddlers, etc...

All in the name of the ALMIGHTY DOLLAR!

Whatever you think about the country, it is one of the most amazing places. I went there three months ago and had the time of my life. Casa de la musica club was one of the best experiences.. bands don't start until midnight and people were just dancing all night.

Yes, there are alot of things wrong with the country and right now it is untouched by the corporations (going to be sad once they come in), but I am convinced it is one of the best places I will ever visit.

You can see some pics I took here: http://tinyurl.com/2p9a39

Some are from Cancun, but most are in Cuba.

You know what amazes me the most about this thread? A bunch of beligerant and rude Americans that have never even been to Cuba have had the audacity to tell me what it's like there, and that I'm flat-out wrong.
