They're not going to ditch steam. Steam looks pretty good so far (I actually have it running), and the interface is decent. It's just the updates that are a killer for it.
Besides, steam is a way for valve to cut sierra and other companies out of the profit of game distribution (think future titles).

for the final release you will be able to download a patch (cs16full.exe or somthing like it).
the reason the BETA was released on steam was to test the steam servers which apparently don't have enough bandwidth to even handle the leaked release and to test steam itself
once again...the final version will be released like all the others, plus it will be availiable through steam!
probably be here in mid feb.

He may be drunk but hes right, lol. Steam will be introduced for 1.7. Steam will be a much better system in the end, it will help to eliminate cheating and it will give everyone a preset nickname I believe.
Anyway, Ive given up on 1.6 for the next day or so, Ill try to play over the weekend if things quiet down a bit.
Anyone know when they will release 1.6b? I am a server owner and I'd like to make my server into 1.6. I was hearing through e-mails that they are going to release 1.6b and we would have to get a new steam patch. :Q
You know what would be really great in CS 1.7 is if they took out the camper element. How many times have you been playing on a server and had the entire server complaining about a camper or yelling at a certain camper to stop camping (5 out of every 6 games or so here)?
If they jacked health up 2-3 times as much (or decreased weapon damage) and scattered health/powerups around the map then people who decide to crouch behind a door will be forced to move around the map.
It would also be nice if they increased the "fun" quotient by adding in some rather Unreal-istic weapons... say maybe a shock rifle, a rocket launcher and some sort of plasma gun? Adding dodging and a translocator would be pretty fun also and increase your options a lot more (therefore increasing complexity -> increasing difficulty).
Assault is nice, but maybe a few CTF maps would help compliment the Assault action?

UT2k3 may not be that great but give UT a chance if you missed it the first time around.In otherwords, they are giving people more of a reason to be camp-whores. If they were smart, the CS developers would make all of these new "changes" server options. IE, you can see who has died, points for defuse/bombed, things like that that makes people quit playing CS.
Sure, it adds an new twist to the game, but who cares if its going to make it less fun?

doing that would destroy the game more than they already have.

hmm. the shield can take alittle getting used to.. can only carry a pistol while using the shield and when you're using the shield, it limits your field of vision..
really havent messed with the new rifles, but the more the merrier..

keep trying. i got a few windows errors.. while trying to get that thing to run.. steam sucks..
It says fatal error "hw.dll" not loaded :| Is there anyway to check that your CS is infact updated to 1.6? Because even after the patch i was able to play on 1.5 servers.
Uninstall everything. Install and update CS to 1.5
Start the original Steam Install from scratch. Then start the Steam program after you install it, again from scratch.
