i thought PS 3 has the G70 variation GPU and the XBox 360 has R580 variation GPU with Unified Shader,

how can they run games that have DX10 graphic quality???

Correction, Xbox 360 has the R500, which will be released on the PC as R600, not R580. As to the answer to your question. All that you have seen now of Crysis was run on DX9 hardware, so why shouldn't the consoles be able to do at least that? Also, Ubisoft would be crazy to sell a PC game with DX10 compliant hardware being mandatory. They will likely have DX9 support in Crysis.

lol what why do they(ATI) have R500 for XBox 360 but it is actually R600 for PC???

anyway, i knwo that klike HHalf life 2 support DX 7, so yeah Crysis should have backward compatibility with the old DX, so ur saying that the console versions wont run on DX10??

I know that the G70 is not DX10, so there is no way the PS3 will run Crysis in DX10 mode. I am fairly certain that the R500 is DX9, but it may have a remote possibility of being something beyond that, but I do not think so. I would say that both consoles will run Crysis at DX9.

THERE IS NO DX FOR CONSOLES! DX is for games to comunicate with different graphics cards in the same way, for this to work, Microsoft needed to make standardizations. Console games are made just for a certain graphics card, so the game itself will know how to comunicate with the card directly. That's why you can see older hardware like the PS2 which was made before DX9 pull of DX9 effects.

Flamebait coming to a forum near you. Can you handle it?

Excuse me if I'm wrong, but as the previous user said, DirectX is only on PC's right? So I don't think there's any need for talk about whether consoles can run DX10 because it's not the same at all.

Microsoft themselves said at E3 that Crysis will run on WinXP and that DirectX 10 will only offer performance benefit, not any real image quality difference.

I'm curious to see if games actually run any better under Vista even with DirectX 10, as I believe Vista will use up more system resources itself, so it might be null and void as far as performance goes due to more overhead for the OS, but I'm far from an expert on this, and since Vista is still a long ways off, we won't know for some time.

Isn't DirectX going to be referred to as Windows Graphic Foundation (WGF) when Vista releases? Ah, they've decided to call it DirectX 10 after all and drop the WGF moniker.

I believe that the 360 supported WGF.

But at any rate, I think Crysis should definitely be possible on the newer consoles, and should look great and hopefully play great too.

Give credit to the Crysis developers for NOT dumbing down Crysis for the consoles, but instead releasing the full version on PC FIRST, to allow greater complexity, and also to make the point that PC gaming isn't dead

(per their interview on gametrailers)

Where did you get this information? Every site I've seen reports it's just for PC.

This is likely just a dumb rumor. "Omg EA is publishing it, it will be on the consolezzzz!"

Even it was, it wouldn't be the same game anyway.

Perhaps I should have clarified myself, I was not speaking of the direct x API specifically. When I say that the consoles will play the game in DX9 mode, I am stating that they are going to use DX9 level shaders and whatnot, not the API itself. When I speak of DX8/9 and such, I speak of the shading techniques and such. Doom 3 is an OpenGL game, but one could call it a "DX9" game because of the graphical technology that it takes advantage of.

Consoled are not bound to any version of DX, and hence they could have functionality that goes well beyond DX9, not just on the API level, but in the actual hardware layer. I see no reason to think that the consoles will somehow only be limited to DX9 level shaders, especially the xbox360 whose gpu will form the basis of the DX10 r600 PC video card.

a lot of sites have it as an XBox 360 game:

http://games.teamxbox.com/xbox-360/1396/Crysis/#news
http://msxbox-world.com/xbox360/games/games/183/Crysis.html
http://www.360-hq.com/modules.php?name=Xbox_Games&op=view&id=139&related_gid=139

personally i hope this will only be on PC cos i really hate the consoles, but eventaully this will go to console like FEAR on XBox 360 ...

i wouldnt be surprise if they can run it since XBox's GPU is only a 64 MB GeForce 3 variant and yet it can run Splintercell 3 Chaos Theory, eventually they will find a way to let it run

From the developer's mouth per video interview at gametrailers

It is made for PC first, made to fit PC capability, then LATER, they MAY scale it down for the consoles

I think the xbox360 and ps3 can handle it. Probably not at 1080p but definitely at 720p. The question becomes, why would you want to play it on one of those systems? Especially if it doesn't support a keyboard and mouse configuration. Crysis looks AWESOME but I'll stick to playing it on my PC.

Coding for a console is easier than coding for a PC (from a performance standpoint).

Who the hell knows what kind of GPU\CPU\OS\Spyware you have in your system. However they know exactly what kind of hardware you have in your console and so they can tweak the program better.

Not too mention that if they only code it to 720p with 2xAA like most (if not all) current Xbox 360 games either console will handle it just fine.

LISTEN TO ME NOW :! DEVELOPERS HAVE NO PLAN TO MAKE CRYSIS AVALIABLE OF XBOX 360 or PS3. Microsoft doesn't even want it to be on xbox 360 because its the game that will help the mass upgrade to Windows Vista for its DX 10 feature. That was the reason it was shown in E3 2006 Microsoft pressconfrence.
