Thank you! I want the game to look amazing and be punishing for reasons other than AA, which may not even be noticeable during actual gameplay. Taxing 2x680GTX's should be able to provide real next gen graphics, nothing an 8 year old console can even think about running.

Crytek's hype machine promising C3 to be the best looking game for at least 2 years with no competition from anyone else?

The Beta of C3 better be some downscaled version if the real C3 SP game if Crytek thinks they can set the standard for PC graphics for years to come.

C3 beta multiplayer looks like an Xbox 720 launch title. ;)

Scroll down fast enough and you can barely tell which system is which without enlarging those screenshots.

^ C1 breakthrough in 2007-2008!

5 years ago!!!!

Even the colour palette of C2 makes it way back into C3. It's like playing with limited range RGB. Last holiday season, Xbox 360 was going for $99 CDN over here. $99! $1000 GTX690 vs. $100 console and this is all Crytek came up with? They should have hired top 5 Skyrim/Crysis 1/Warhead/Doom/Crysis 2 modders to join their team to make it next gen.

I hope not all DX11 features are included in the beta multiplayer.

I was hoping C3 would blow this way:
Extreme Immersive mod v3.0.55

This is what the original sections of downtown NYC looked like on the PC version of Crysis 3 before Crytek had to scrap the project and be forced to dumb the game down for PS360 after C2 sales bombed on the PC :)

even if they have huge but less obvious differences, or texture res, the end result is still to close, considering how old and slow the xbox is... the game is clearly designed with the 360/ps3 and their limitations in mind, from the basic level design and many assets, it's a shame...
the PC got some extras, but it's pretty inefficient for the visual benefit.

C3's resolution is severely gimped on the consoles which makes them seem much worse: 1152x720 on 360 and 1024x720 on the PS3. But as you said the actual art assets are hardly different.

Watch this:

Dark Souls on PS3 at 1024x720

Dark Souls on PC at 1920x1080 no AA

C3 looks like a high res version of Xbox 360 + High resolution textures with a little more vegetation and AA/AF fixing some obvious blurring issues of the 360.

Do you know of a single game that has different art assets for consoles vs PC?

Here ya go, your Witcher 2.
(I think I actually prefer 360 version :ninja:)

What PC game by your standards does NOT look "too close" to xbox/ps version?
How do you design multiplatform title without considering "360/ps3 and their limitations"?

I've lost track... what's the issue at hand here?

i hate when they do these comparison videos and don't change the pc res to match the xbox res because the resolution difference alone is enough to exaggerate the differences.

use the same pc settings and use a 1368x768 res with the exact same settings and you will notice a huge difference.

if they used the same res on the pc as the xbox, we could grab a better apples to apples comparison.

Why would you match the res? The point is to showcase the difference. Lowering the res to abysmal console settings is kind of dumb

What is Far Cry 3 like on consoles in comparison to the PC ? Hopefully its just an isolated problem? Dice did a good job pushing upgrades with BF3 so I'm expecting to be blown away with BF4.

Just watch the video in 480. Maybe not what you want, but it helps level the playing field for resolution. PC version still looks overtly superior.

They went a little overboard with the image sharpening in the first screenshot.

You still retain detail with down scaling. Even in that case, Crysis 3 is mediocre for a 2013 PC game. It's a console port, nothing more.

I was going to say, my Skyrim no looky like your skyrim :(

I tried DOF with ENB, I couldn't stand it. Nice for screen caps (like a lot of the ENB's), terrible to game with (imo).

Which I guess would be my point in response here, comparing basically unplayable screen caps against real actual game settings isn't really a fair comparison.

Console looks about what I'd expect, a blurry mess.

The PC looks clearly better, but not what I've come to expect from modern PC games, we're still being held back console games without a shadow of a doubt.

Look at Crysis 1 vs console games at the time and just how far ahead it was...now look at that gap between Crysis 3 and console games, that gap should be enormous

This is the approximate tech progress vs consoles (leaving out the current generation), why do those screens look so similar.

Skyrim is perfectly playable with ENB settings, you just need the shading horsepower to push it. Here's some screenshots from my game:

I typically get ~40FPS outdoors, ~60FPS indoors.

Skyrim I think is a great example of what is possible on the PC's of 2012 and 2013 if developers at least give modders the tools to make their games better. I realize that games are developed under both a financial and a time budget, but some companies just execute everything better, especially how they treat their communities. I will wholeheartedly support companies that give the community the tools to make their games better.
