Crysis 3 beta: Weigh in here...

Odd, I had the opposite feeling with this Open Beta than the previous closed sessions and Crysis 2. I could not get into Crysis 2 at all. With Crysis 3, it is nice that armour and energy is separate bars, so you can armour up while energy is regenerating. Fall damage takes both away and the ledge grabs are not as flakey.

The sluggishness may be from the server and client not reporting the correct pings as I have gone into a server that reported a 75 ping on the server browser, however in game it was 200+.

Overall, I'm really looking into playing MP off the bat. Also, if you are maxed at 10, make sure to reboot the suit to unlock one of the other 3 weapons. Your stats will reset but you will get the bow unlocked. You need to do it again for the M60 and again for the Typhoon.

It's 5 times for the Typhoon. If I recall correctly you get the JAW the 3rd time, I don't remember what it was the 4th time. What annoys me about it is having to unlock weapon attachments again. I honestly would remove that, it feels to wrong to take something away from me when I try to advance.

(and it requires a good bit more skill).

I don't think it was really ever successful enough for them to put more resources into.

You're right, but the reason it was never that successful was because of the steep skill curve. That's why there are separate energy and armor bars now. Crytek wants the game to be more accessible.

I've seen a lot of people calling the game a console port, I don't think they understand what a console port is. The PC version was definitely not developed for consoles and ported over to PC.

I hate that sound of the motion tracker now..... it haunts me.

But being a hunter is awesome, just run and gun with the bow.

Yea you basically have to disappear after you make a few shots or else you'll get spotted and converged on.

I also liked not knowing which round I'd be the hunter. So when it happens, I get giddy.

I had serious issues connecting to BF3 and Crysis

I think Origin was having problems last night dealing with traffic 🙁

what is this reboot stuff? you can reboot the suits?

I pretty much didnt play any crysis 2 beyond the beta, never got around to it, and its been so long since crysis 1 I might as well be a total n00b to the mechanics of crysis

It is really stream lined, Q and E are Armour and Invisibility modes. X still brings up the weapon customization screen, but I would stick to pressing "2" for the secondary fire. "1" toggles the weapons and "V" is melee.

Rebooting the suit is when you max out the level system, when that happens you can reboot the suit for normally locked weapons. It forces you down to stock but it is a nice way to keep it fresh.

I am very disappointed. Looks and plays just like Crysis 2. The foliage looks terrible, basically a couple of planes intersecting each other, nothing like the original Crysis. Battlefield 3 looks much better.

SLI didn't work. Reinstalling drivers and game to try again. Single card = lag city and the game looks like crysis 2.

EDIT: tried again and SLI worked. FPS between 50 and 80 and was mostly right about 60. 1080p, all very high including textures 4X msaa. 1.6-1.8 vram usage.

I'm not really a fan of the movement in the game. It seems really floaty to me, and the mouse settings absolutely suck. Lowest is to low and the next step up is way to high. Not sure why so many games have this problem.

Could be your mouse? Is it a sensitive high res gaming mouse?

I know my mouse i partially to blame, but seriously, why do they code games with a 600dpi optical mouse in mind these days?

There needs to be some functionality in the programs to say what DPI a mouse is and then adjust accordingly.

Played the Crysis 3 beta for several hours over the weekend. Have to say I'm surprised with how much I like it. I actually went ahead and preordered the game (which is pretty rare for me).

Maps are nice and open. The movement and gunplay feel just right to me. The 2 game modes that are in beta are both really fun and very different. I was experiencing some mouse lag at first even at a high framerate, but that seems to have been resolved with the newest beta drivers from Nvidia.

Looks great, but as someone who plays FPS games casually my shit gets kicked in so fast and thoroughly that the gameplay is impossible to enjoy.

The same could really be said about any MP game though. As far as frustration through I really find the pacing to be a lot better than COD for example. The maps are big enough, and lateral enough that you aren't constantly shooting down the same corridors. And people aren't spawning behind you shooting you in the back either.

I think it's just not my game...

I am terrible at BF3 but I enjoy it because I can take time to soak things in, weigh options and make decisions. There are faster paced moments, but they are still relatively slow due to the physics of moving around in the game. Cod had a little bit of this as well, though some matches inevitably become an insanely fast pace killing machine.

But this game is just top end speed from the get-go and there are way too many inputs for me to consider at any given point to be of any use. It's not bad, just not the style I was hoping for.

IMO this game strikes a really nice balance between the COD and BF formula while still keeping it's own identity. TBH I've only been into online games for a few years now, but I can really see myself getting into this one, as long as my friends are playing too.

Personally I couldn't care less about Crysis's multiplayer. That's not what anyone wants from this series.

I want to see a single-player tech demo with graphical improvements as revolutionary as Crysis 1. If they're not bringing that then I don't care about this game at all. There are enough mediocre, generic fps games on the market already.

You should still try the MP. Just don't do it with any hopes or expectations.

It's fun.

It's out today. I saw the horrible "sharped dress man" commercial for it yesterday. I have little interest in the game but will probably pick it up once the price drops below $15. I bought the second for around the same price and thought it was a good yet unremarkable game. I'd rather spend my money on Bioshock Infinite.

they're both getting my money 🙂

I'll check it out if I can get a good deal. I wish they had Crysis 3 + Tomb Raider codes instead of frickin Bioshock.
