"DirectX 11 Support To Reach Crysis 2 Sometime Today

According to the guys at Maximum PC Crysis 2 should receive a DirectX 11 patch today which will also unlock an advanced graphics menu in-game.

Crysis 2 already looks amazing in DX9 mode, so it'll be interesting to see how much more DX11 adds to the visuals. Thanks goes out to "N Baker" for the tip!"

Sweet. I started playing it yesterday with DX9, and IMO it still looks great and surpasses the original. It'll be interesting to see how much extra eye candy DX11 adds. Hopefully it doesn't cause too much of a performance hit.

I assume you haven't played the game because the graphics were great at release.

I agree; the game looks great. Also if they are trying to combat piracy this is a poor tactic. People will pirate the patch, and crack the new version as well. No doubt about that.

Anyone think this being left out was a way to combat early piracy? As in punishing people who pirate with bad graphics?

What? That... makes so little sense that my brain actually hurts from trying to figure out what you mean by this. In your little world, how could withholding DX11 possibly reduce piracy? It's being released as a patch/update, which any pirate can use like any other release. It may have to be cracked but it'll only take a little while if anything. If that wasn't enough of a "WTF", then how does witholding a DX11 from the PAYING CUSTOMERS help anything at all? All that's happened is it made a bunch of PC gamers mad (who've already decided to hate the game because it wasn't limited to only their precious game box). Nevermind the fact that if it does indeed come out today, then that patch came out less than a week after release which doesn't really hurt anybody much... pirates or otherwise.

I... I think I have to lie down. :|

There are probably a lot of reasons, so we can speculate all we want. Most people tend to gravitate towards the negative, but I would like to give the benefit of the doubt to crytek and say that they were probably facing bugs with DX11 close to release date and they couldn't fix it in time, so instead of releasing a buggy DX11 game where I'm sure plenty of people will bitch about, they decided to withhold it until it is completely fixed and patch the game post release.

I hope it at least works well enough without becoming unplayable. I'm a tad worried that dispite missing release that they DID still rush it a bit after seeing the throngs of negative opinions on the graphics and lack of DX11. To be quite honest I'm not even sure I'll notice a difference, but if it makes things even better then I'm in.

F-ck crysis 2. I seriously considered buying a ps3 and just giving up pc gaming altogether because of the crysis failure. I browsed newegg's site for games available for ps3 and it looks like all the games on ps3 I'd like to play are on the pc too. So even if the games are console ports they still look much better on the pc. I haven't bought crysis 2 and I refuse to until it's about $20, which is what it's worth.

well....this still su*cks as the game is still completely broken and unplayable for me on a pair of xfired 5970's due to the "insane" flickering issue.

Can't you just disable crossfire, and play? I know it sucks but it should still be plenty playable on extreme settings even with only 1 card.

TBH I don't game on my PS3 at all aside from the exclusives, and you can't get those on the PC. God of War 3, Uncharted 1/2, Infamous 1 (and soon 2), Ratchet and Clank series, Twisted Metal (coming soon), Killzone 2/3 (though if you think Crysis 2 is bad you'll really dislike these), and a bunch of RPGs. It definitely won't serve as a PC game replacement by any means, but to fill in the gaps of what you can't get it's good enough.

I hope the disappearing Nano catalyst bug is fixed

Yea, I was playing last night and I noticed that sometimes the nano catalyst I collected wasn't registering. It kept me at 0 catalyst.. it always just magically starts working for no reason, like mid-level.
Hmm I thought that was just my imagination, but yeah it's happened to me too. I thought I had 500 and then I picked up another and was looking to upgrade the one that costs 600, but I only had 100 then :-\

I pulled the trigger on Crysis 2 Limited Edition. NCIX.com has it for 45CAD if anyone interested.

I started Crysis the first that I bought on sale from Steam last Christmas. Gonna play that and jump in Crysis 2 in a few weeks.

the nano catalyst bug had me looking for cheats since i've lost enough now to unlock more suit options!

as for the graphics - they're decent but not as good as the original. it also has annoying amounts of pop-in which is pathetic frankly.

there are switches you can add to the .exe to increase the draw distance..

Nope, tried. Diabling crossfire or any of the other work-arounds did not help at all (unless you include windowed --- which I refuse to play in).
