The pc version was a shameful letdown and i'm glad there are so many of you that gladly sit by and let yourself settle for second rate ports from consoles. Given the popularity and more mainstream appeal of high end computer hardware I'm simply perplexed that crytek didn't even bother to make an attempt at something special for the pc.

never minding the fact that it looks and runs better than any other pc game. i get solid 60fps, extreme @1920x1080.
I don't like the plot nor the story, as an fps it plays typical for the most part, but just cause its efficient enough to look similar on consoles doesn't mean its nothing special on PC. For an FPS running realtime, looking this good at such excellent frames is a rarity indeed.
There is a difference between Art direction and graphics. Some games look good due to art direction, yet few are realtime anything, their just static environments, often with weak physics.

and high end hardware is not mainstream and only popular with the smaller niche of gaming guru's..that being most of us on forums like this.

Can anyone give me some pointers on the C2 config edit tool? I check the boxes for the various AA methods and set them to "0" and the game looks the same. It seems the program isn't doing anything. I point it to the executable, it creates the config file and the launch button launches the game.

Anyone had any luck with this tool?

This reminds me of some of my favorite bands that got popular and started making the worst music under the direction of a mainstream producer. Enjoy your watered down culture.

Or you could learn your game dev history. Crytek has always been, and always will be, a "sellout". Their first public project was a tech demo for NVIDIA and now they are making cross platform games published by EA. What's the difference, really? /shrug

Did you hit "apply" first? It worked fine for me. The new patch came out though so it may have broken some things... I doubt it though. The config commands shouldn't have changed so it'd still work.

Speaking of the patch, I loaded up my latest save to find myself at 0 nano-catalyst which is not what I ended at. Seems like the patch did exactly the opposite of what it was supposed to do for me... god damn it.

Make sure you delete any autoexec.bat files in your main crysis 2 directory.

Make sure you run the config editor as administrator.. if you don't it won't write the custom config after you hit apply

oh and version 1.7 is out

Still broken for me too. Nano-catalyst at 0 when I load my last saved game, and it doesn't collect anymore. Just stays at 0 even though I get the on screen notice that the catalyst was collected.

They have an autoexec.bat file? Are you kidding me? What kind of things are in there that they are trying to run at startup? (also do modern MS OSes even read those anymore during boot up?)

It's actually called 'autoexec.cfg'...!

Well, still been playing the campaign. I played a little more MP but I still get demolished and it sucks big time. Not sure why I do so bad in it when the demo I was doing about 1.75 k/d ratio.

Anyway, campaign is pretty sweet. I'm maybe 5 hours in. I had heard that it really picks up the last 2/3 but I haven't noticed much difference really. I mean it was enjoyable from the get go but I don't see a big difference yet and I'm sure I'm far enough in to get to the point most people are talking about. Do you fight CELL anymore? I haven't fought a CELL guy for hours. The last one I seen was where you are with two Marines and a CELL guy get cut down from behind by two aliens. I thought you would be fighting them for longer before the aliens.

Also, what guns and modules do you guys like for SP? I used the SCARAB and Feline at first, since I wanted the silencer (SCARAB) over the assault scope (SCAR), but after you lose your weapons, I haven't found the SCARAB or Feline again, so I'm using the SCAR and lately the DSG-1. The pistols just don't seem useful to me, especially something like the Nova or AY69. The LMG is okay, but the sniper rifle seems the best as it kills regular aliens in 1-2 hits. I tried the Marshall for awhile but it takes two hits so why use it over the sniper rifle?

I haven't seen that K-volt pellet gun for a while but it seemed to suck against CELL so I didn't keep it. That L-TAG doesn't seem worth it at all so I dropped it for the DSG-1. The X-43 Mike seemed decent for the short time I had ammo to use it. I don't really use C4 or grenades or much JAW rockets (try to save them). Am I missing anything?

One thing is that the max ammo capacity you can carry is much lower (only 200 for SCAR vs 320 in Crysis 1) but there's so many damn ammo boxes it's not a problem. So while at first I would use the Feline to save my SCARAB ammo, I see it wasn't needed now since you pick it up so often.

For modules, I'm running Mobility Enhance, the one that tracks incoming bullets, and Nano Recharge. The rest of the Power ones don't seem worth it (more control in air, air stromp) and the TAC ones not really either (more suited to multiplayer I think). I'm saving for the Deflection one to see what it's about, but after that I don't see myself using any others except the one that tracks footsteps.

Although it slows you down big time and you can't do anything while carrying it, detaching those HMGs is boss. It takes only 2-3 hits for a regular alien.

I just beat it a few minutes ago, where was the ending? oh yeah there wasn't one. I'll say that overall it was a good experience but nothing close to my expectations. I'd give it a 82/100 for the pc. Xbox i'm sure would warrant a much higher rating.

The lowest powered pistol is the best gun in the game. Once you find the silencer you can run around headshotting everyone and it barely depletes your cloak meter. So overpowered haha.

but later on, against alien the pistol ain't gonna do much damage.

i still find stealth kill or armor-mode+melee the best.

I used highest damage SCARAB (Demolition SCARAB) paired with the DSG sniper most of the time, until towards the end when it just doesn't cut it against Aliens, I used Grendal carefully because of low mag and max ammo paired with Big Mike (which I ended up never used in 2nd toughest difficulty).

Yah that has worked quite well. Just after I say I hadn't seen any CELL guys, I had to fight a bunch while going to the security terminal in the lobby of that building. I didn't realize that the weapon shot affects how much energy is lost while in stealth mode. For the Nova, it's only 10, so as you said you can make a lot of stealth shots with it. The Hammer is 20 energy lost per shot. I didn't try any others.

And a bit after that I now have the Grendel. Seems awesome. I'm still hanging onto the SCAR, but the Grendel is a great rifle that rips up the Ceph aliens, and it allows the same attachments. So maybe I'll dump the SCAR for something I can silence. But that won't matter if there's no more CELL. Is there CELL combat through or is it just the aliens after the initial part?

:) u will find out. But don't worry, they are still plenty of weapons lying around thoroughout and towards the end of the game, so go have fun and use different kind of weapon. I kinda regretted that I didn't go crazy and enjoy myself with the LTAG or other silly weapon, and instead stuck with the safe choice of the SCAR.

Hah okay! Yeah that's true sometimes it's nice to do something different. Like I was using the silenced Nova 12 on some CELL guys in like a parking garage but found and L-TAG and decided to have a little fun with that.

I do hope there's more CELL fighting. I thought Hargreave sent the CELL after you/Prophet, but I guess Hargreave now went against the rest of them? The Ceph though is kind of more like a human the way they fight than the aliens from Crysis. I do hope its not all aliens as it didn't seem like the start against the Cell was long enough.

Been playing a few hours a multiplayer each day. Seems there is a lot of cheating still going on. Basically, I play 3-4 maps and then someone comes in with an aimbot and then server clears out. Saw one guy go 45-0 in a 50 kill team instant action match. He would literally do 4-5 hotshots in under 5 seconds across the entire map.

don't try to think too much about the plot. While I applaud it for trying to be different, but it didn't have the coherence and fluidity of Half Life's story-telling.

Wow, it hasn't sold much at all on the PC:

http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/sales/35003/crysis-2/

About 1 million copies in two weeks, but the 360 version accounts for over half and the PC the least by far (134,000). I know that doesn't include digital sales, but how much do you think were digital? Even if there were as much digital sales as retail, that's still less than the PS3 version.

I guess I don't blame them for going multiplatform.

or it sold poorly for the PC as people wanted a real crysis game like the 1st 2. not crysis of duty

I buy all my pc games through Steam, I have three friends/relatives that are also pc gamers and they buy everything through Steam. I wouldn't be surprised if digital distribution accounts for 40% or more of the PC sales.

although i havnt seen the ending, bare in mind it was written as a trilogy. lots of games out there that don't have much of an ending, keeps the story open. Advent Rising being my biggest disappointment cause they canned the sequals and it had a cliffhanger ending.

yeah but at the end of crysis it had my balls.

The endings between the 2 games were pretty much the same gist. Hero emerges at the end of the day to continue the fight. The End.

Crysis 1's boss battle on the aircraft carrier was a lot more memorable than the last level of crysis 2 I will admit though.
