DX11, like DX10 before it, is a complete joke. Or at least that's the case right now. The original Crysis proved this with the laughable "DX10 features" which were easily enabled in DX9 with BETTER PERFORMANCE. Please... just give me the good stuff in DX9 and call it a day, DX10/11is still just window-dressing at this point...

Also, IGN is speculating that DX11 might be scrapped completely for Crysis 2. So far, they've still yet to see the game running in DX11 at all.

You can't judge by the AT reaction, there are some people that get bent out of shape at the very mention of EA, Crytek, consolized...etc. And Crysis 2 is all those things. :)

I'm downloading from Steam right now, the reviews got me pumped... although I will say that Nanovision was very OP in the demo and am hoping it gets fixed for the full release. It needs to completely drain you suit power in three seconds or something like that, it was much too strong in the demo.

Yeah I actually bought in on Steam 20 minutes ago.

I used nanovision quite a lot in the demo. I think your solution is too harsh, but yeah hopefully Crytek patches for bugs and balance for at least the near future.

DX11 is more of a marketing gimmick anyway. Software vendors continue to work with hardware vendors from both camps to improve on their functionality and capabilities all the time. Who gives a rats ass about what Microsoft calls DX11? They're the same company that produced the Xbox, remember?

You should read up the articles some time in the video section of anandtech over the last few years.

I know more about this stuff than you may believe. I've been in game development. :/

Well, I dropped 60 bucks on the game after seeing all the positive reviews at the end of the evening. Played the single player for about an hour. Pretty damn good graphics, and runs great on my system at "extreme" settings. I honestly don't really care if it doesn't have DX11 support as the game is looking pretty amazing.

I've heard people complain that the game does not look as good as Crysis/Warhead, but that notion can be put to rest because from what I've seen of the game so far, it's looking just as good if not better, also in part to the great art direction.

So far, these are my thoughts:

Pros:
-Great graphics
-Really fun stealthing around as you murder the baddies
-Simplified powersuit controls
-Good ol' Crysis game play

Cons:
-Multiplayer is completely broken right now. If anyone is able to play online, let me know, because it keep saying "CD key in use" every time I try to join a game. This is a widespread issue apparently.
-Motion blur. A bit over done, I need to figure out a way to turn this crap off.
-I can't skip the 4 or 5 logo screens every time I launch the game. If anyone know a way, let me know.

EDIT: I tried logging on for MP again, and it asked for me to re-enter my key. I did, this time without the dashes, and was able to join the game just fine.

Cool. That sounds like mostly what I've heard from people who actually own the game. In fact it sounds better than I expected.

Also, you can't currently turn off motionblur, but you can skip the intros. Here's a list of commands that currently work (I assume in commandline or autoexec.cfg):

http://pastebin.com/Rzn7gjNb

So to turn off the intros, add to your command line:

+g_skipIntro 1

Looks like you can also adjust FOV that way if you want.

Looks like they patched a few minor things (well, except cheat detection isn't minor, heh):

http://www.mycrysis.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=10951

"
Crysis 2 is now available and we want to let our PC fans know that we have a Day 1 patch ready to go. Thanks to your feedback, we have fixed and/or modified the following:

· Server Browser shows incorrect pings - Fixed
· Some matches never initiate - Fixed
· Faster text chat - As speedy as can be
· Console re-enabled - Console has been re-activated
· Cheat detection - Now in place to ensure all users are on a level playing field
· Fix USB headset issues – Current issues have been addressed and fixed
· Fix hologram icon staying on screen after being used - Fixed
· Remove Auto Aim - This has now been completely removed due to overwhelming community feedback

The patch will auto-download when you start Crysis 2 on the PC. We look forward to seeing you all online!"

I didn't care about the auto aim. If it was only there for when using a controller, what's wrong with that? Ifthe KB/m is so superior for control, so what's wrong with aim assist for people using a controller?

Sounds like something is jacked with the MP though. Master server, or authentication for cdkeys, or something, but seems like almost no one can play yet.

Just logged on - CD Key already in use...

Sorting for Ranked servers, there are only half a dozen with anyone even playing. The rest are empty.

Trouble is brewing...

I bought and loved Far Cry, Crysis, and Crysis Warhead. Not picking this one up, looks like a consolized POS.

These reviews make me wonder if any of the reviewers actually played the game, and how much they were paid to double the actual scores. This game is extremely disappointing compared to Crysis and Crysis Wars.

I pre-ordered this game last year and will be returning my copy tomorrow.

wow, the game must be abysmal since Crysis sucked.

Thank you fellow pc gamers. Let's show these a-holes we're not some second class citizens that can just be stepped on like ants. Speak with your wallets. If Crytek has determined we're not worthy of their time then let them leave the pc gaming community altogether.

I have no interest in the multiplayer aspect

the single player, thus far, is very well done - and on my new system the graphics and sound are fantastic

Well I won't be pissed if I can't play MP tonight when it finally downloads. Obviously I should be able to since I bought the game and it's release date, but these kind of problems often happen (though more with MMOs when they are overloaded). By tomorrow it'll probably be fixed.

I think the worst part about is the lack of communication for Crytek or EA on this. What is causing the problem and what are they doing to fix it? I mean it seems weird they released a pack fixing a bunch of minor issues that affect multiplayer when multiplayer doesn't really work to begin with. I'd like to hear something like "Popularity of the game has overloaded the master server that authenticates the keys. We hope to have the issue resolved in xxx hours, during which time the reported problems of 'serial in use' etc should be resolved"

I bought it today and for a dx9 game its ok so far. I'd rather see dx11 support right off the bat but it still looks good.

Graphics are hit and miss, love some aspects but there's evidence of it's console roots all over the place. Also having lots of trouble with the motion blur, it's killing my eyes. Same thing happened with the original, but we had the option to turn it off.

I'll wait till it comes free with my next video card. The gametrailers' review made it look pretty good though.

LOL, this from the Ars review made me chuckle.

In fact, the first achievement you gain in the 360 version asks "Can it run Crysis?"

Wow... Any ideas?

Crysis 2 finished downloading. Launching it then starts a three step process for the first time: update DirectX, update the VC++ 2008 Redistributable, and activate. All three steps finish fine then game tries to load but "Game is currently unavailable".

Steam support has a page dedicated to this. I tried every solution on it and none worked.

During the many steps in the Steam support page for "Game is unavailable", I figured out that the problem isn't Steam, but with Crysis, since running crysis2.exe doesn't work: "This application has failed to start since the application configuration is incorrect..."

Searching around, it's definitely something to do with the VC++ 2008 redistributable. So I tried reinstalling/repair, everything, and it completes successfully everytime but still doesn't work. I then noticed I had like 4 entries in Add/Remove for the VC++ 2008, and one for VC++ 2005, so I uninstalled every VC++ redist, restarted, then reinstalled VC++ 2005, VC++ 2008, and VC++ 2008 SP1 (the one included with Crysis2). I tried in different combinations and doing repairs, everything.

Interesting is that the VC++ 2008 SP1 redistributable from Crysis2 is the same one packaged and presumably required by Black Ops. While Crysis 2 doesn't load, Black Ops still does.

So I have all three redistributables downloaded from MS currently installed: VC++ 2005, VC++ 2008, VC++ 2008 SP1 (the same one included with Crysis 2). But there's still a problem. I can't think of anything else to do except format. :(

Sidenote: One of the Steam solutions for "Game is unavailable" is to exempt Steam.exe and crysis2.exe from DEP (I use Windows XP SP3 with DEP on for all except exempted programs). Don't do this because Steam then complains about running in compatibility mode, but unchecking Steam.exe from DEP exemptions is bugged and you need to edit the registry to remove the exemption. Never would have figured that out without a Steam forum post by user ZeroHour.

LOL even better. I fail.

Was trying one last time to remove all VC++ redist and install the latest (they are backwards compatible except by year, so you need 2005, 2008, and 2010 if needed). I uninstalled them all and restarted, except now nothing happened after login and explorer fails to load. I think because ATI Catalyst or some other startup program needs them. Which is weird because I removed them all before and restarted fine?

So now I'm stuck in safe mode and don't have privileges to install VC++ redists. I tried removing everything from msconfig startup but nothing works. Forced to format. If that VC++ stuff/Crysis 2 doesn't work by then I may destroy my rig.
