Cryptocoin Mining?

It's highly random, and that .02 is like $.32. Not bad for doing nothing. If you run it 24 hours at that rate you have about $8. Isn't that decent money for doing basically nothing, even after taking out for electricity costs?

It's not going to make you rich in a week, but it can be a fun hobby and give a little free income.

I think after you account for electricity (not just the PC's usage, but the heat your home's air conditioning is having to deal with) this is not going to work out in most peoples' favor.

rough ... guess I am glad I started now then in 5 days ... haha

I've read the thread on this in Distributed Computing, and it kind of made me cringe when someone was complaining about making 1.8 BTC a day with 240GHashes 😛. Makes me wish I would have started early on!

I think you overestimate the cost of electricity. It costs me about $30/month run run my PC at full load, I make that back in 2 days of mining. The A/C running an extra minute a day doesn't really have much of an impact either. I guess it could be a big deal if you live in the middle of nowhere where electricity is really expensive, though.

Sounds like he was trolling, I was making more than 1.8 BTC/day and I only have about 2GHash. After the latest adjustment I am making around 1 BTC/day.

Even if I didnt have a PC in this room, I'd keep the a/c on, I HATE heat. I keep windows open in the winter. And as has been mentioned, electricity costs are minimal. Nobody thinks about how much gaming costs, we all run our rigs as hard as we can for the latest games and look forward to something that will utilize them, so why not utilize the GPU to maybe make some dough?

What clock speed is that? I'm @ the factory (for Sapphire Vapor-X) 875/1250 and am regularly hovering around 360 Mhash per GPU. I think I'll kill-a-watt my system, but with my overclocked power hungry Phenom and two Vapor-X 5870's my system just shuts off after ~15 minutes of both cards mining. Temps for both cards are in the mid-upper 70's. To save power I think I'll put my Ph2 back to 3.0GHz.

If you have the power supply for it, I would overclock those GPU's. Even with less SP's I bet you can easily crack 300Mhash/sec.

That was at stock (725). Bumped it up to 760 on each, and it raised it to ~285 each, now pulling 495 from the wall. (Corsair 750)

I read somehwere to put the following in the Extra Flags section: -v -w128

I think this speeds up 5xxx cards, that may help as well.

Where is the extra flags section?

In the field that says "Extra Flags:" 🙂

Are you using this miner?

Oh ok. Yeah I was using guiminer at first but the performance on my 5780 was pretty bad so I switched to phx miner and output jumped from about 300/mhash to 365. I might have those extra flags in already. Thanks anyway.

As you can see from the screen shot, I am getting over 360MHash/sec on my 5870... you should be able to do the same. But, I would just stick with whatever works for you.
