Cryptocoin Mining?

There is plenty of liquidity in the market. Most of my sells have happened within a few minutes. Those of you commenting on liquidity obviously haven't tried. One exchange has done over 1.1mBTC (~ $10m) in transactions in the past 30 days.

I just traded my GTX 460 for a 5830 and on the hunt for another. Unfortunately they're hard to come by down here for less than $300 USD.

Anyone seen anything that would suggest AMD actually trying to capitalize on this ...bitcoin thing?

No, but they should be. I would imagine their sales have skyrocketed in the past month. I mean look here, Overlord probably purchased half of the remaining stock of 5830s! At the bitcoin forums there was a picture of a guy that bought 10 6990s.

Umm my 750Mh/s rig just mined 0.2 for 8 hours. I'm using slush's pool, is that normal? Will there be any difference if i'd change pool?

Right now the difficulty is high, If you want you can try BTC Guild. They charge less for using the pool.

Can anyone suggest a good place to sell Bitcoins, one that possibily uses paypal? I just sold a few coins and made over $200. I was going to buy more hardware but now it's going to take me a day or two to get that money.

I see that people are making money with this, but does anybody not see this is a giant pyramid scheme?

It absolutely is, but as long as I can recoup the 110 dollars I have put into it, which I absolutely will, I don't care. Wish I would have known about this a year ago. Its kind of like a pyramid scheme where everyone knows exactly when its going to fall apart. In a few months, I don't think anyone will be making massive profits mining bitcoins unless some very strong new cards come out from ATI.

Possibly the house of cards or pyramid will collapse but you still have hardware you can sell! 6990's sold out in uk for 10days!

5830/5850 are out of stock everywhere, it's amazing.
Ended up buying two 5770 for 94$ each + 2 free dirt 3 (30$ value), not bad for 200Mh/s.

Seems a little below normal. I've been getting around 1.2 BTC/day at least with a 6970, 5850, and 5770 running... which is only some 900MHash/s, your results shouldn't be so much lower.

Maybe just bad luck for that 8 hour period, it is a random process after all.

Got my new rig built though, soon moving up to the 1400MHash/sec range

What pool are you using?
I'm trying BTCGuild which seems even slower.

Could someone explain to me how to get into a pool? I'd be stupid not to cash in on this while it lasts. Already running a 5850.

This is amazing, slush's pool went from around 940Ghash/sec to 1.2 Thash/sec over 24 hours. It looks like massive, MASSIVE capacity is being added by the second. Everyone and anyone with an AMD gpu is dogpiling onto this. The $99 5830s are definitely helping.

Probably won't take long until difficulty quadruples at the very least. Ah well, if I make a few bucks it's all good, if I don't it's also still good. I didn't go crazy with hardware like some. =)

As far as bad luck: yeah, slush had one over 2 hour hunt. If that's part of your 8 it definitely explains the poor results. More than compensated by the sub-5 minute finds though. It is very random, an 8 hour block is not indicative of long term results. I'm boiling along with 500Mhashes, looking like about .75 coins/day atm.

Go to deepbit.net and sign up. Then download guiminer and run it. Put in your deepbit login information on the guiminer application. Put "-v w128" in the
extra flags field without the quotes. Select Deepbit as the server and your 5850 as the device. Hit Start Mining. Profit!

I wonder what will happen when difficulty goes way up and every one with less than 1 or 2 GHps will call it quits and drops out...

hmm put that "-v w128" in the flags field in guiminer and my mhashes dropped by 40, does it not apply to cayman?

That is only for 5xxx cards I think. I know it works with my 5850. It almost doubles my Mhash rate.

There will be a lot of 5830's on ebay and craigslist. Can't wait. Gonna try and pick up a 5850 for cheap so that I can crossfire it.

BTW deepbit is too big atm, please choose another solid pool if you are just starting out. When a pool server controls too large a percent of the processing power it gains the ability to cheat (not that I'm accusing deepbit of anything nefarious, just the ability).
