Agreed... I have seen a lot of misinformation in this thread.

First you post about misinformation and then you write this little peice of fiction:

4. Germans did develope most of the technology. Everything except for RADAR for the most part. The A-Bomb? That was being worked on when Eistein was in hands of the Germans. We sneak him out and gain the fruits of his labor. Who actually made it? A Jew working for the Germans. Germans are smart people, have a strong work ethic and take pride in what they do.

The sun can't go down fast enough on that post.

I'm not sure what fairy tale books you get your history from, but Einstein and Enrico Fermi, were both German Jews who immigrated to the United States because of Nazi Anti-Semitism. The US did not "sneak him out". It was German laws and racism that forced them to leave. Who actually made tha A-Bomb? It was ironically, German Jews working for the Americans, not "A Jew working for the Germans."

As far as who had superior technology, unquestionably it was the allies. I mentioned several examples and can list more. Meanwhile all you can say is "Germans did develope most of the technology. Everything except for RADAR for the most part." This is absolutely false.

Thanks for the information, I will have to go research this.

In the same way, CryTek is working with devs (mostly European) from other companies as well. Last I heard, the CryEngine cost 1,000,000 to license and from what I understand, that is insanely cheap for a "AAA" engine.

Source powers Vampire: The Masquerade.

LOL! I didn't mean for my comment to take this thread OT! I work for the German government, have spent 4 years of my life living there, and many of my friends are from there.

I was totally kidding around about ze Germans. They are indeed brilliant manufacturers. Brilliant entrepreneurs? Maybe that is another story.

My rich in-laws own a 2004 S500, 1998 Lexus ES300, 2002 Honda Accord and a 2005 Chevy Suburban. Guess what? The S500 (and most other mercedes they've owned) lack the comfortable ride that even the ES300 provides. Quality is ok, they last up until about 100k miles and then start having some major problems where as the Honda and Lexus are running great with only oil changes needed all these years and they're used for commuting long distances. My 1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo has worked flawlessly for all these years and all I've had to do is minor things like tune-ups and oil changes - my cousin's 1999 BMW has long since broken down due to electrical problems. I don't know where this MYTH of superior German engineering comes from, maybe in the old days they were hot sh!t but not anymore. IMO Japanese engineering easily dominates everyone when talking cars and that is from personal and observed experience.

german vs american? this is so stupid. i bet none of you even know how a damn engine runs.
did you know that american companies overcharge in germany just like they do to us? a 5 series is really like 30 grand, and a 300c is like 50 grand. who would buy a 300c??? a rich person who likes to say "look what i just got motherfcka!" i personally have never owned a german car but every source (friends too) tell me that major components break afer 4 years. hell the s class' WINDOWS would open one day because of some mechanical failure. their reliability (bimmer too) has been due to the fact that they put new untested superior technology into the car. you won't see a tranny fail on a bmw (same for honda and toyota :) ahh with the exception of mk3 supras...she will be mine one day)

can somebody tell my why the hell the video don't show anything? all i get is sound :(

"I'd still like to see them pull out a 30MPG City car, seems only toyota can do that. They must have some magic touch. Honda can't touch it either, although it gets close. I curious about how Toyota does it. Their cars are pretty ugly though. And so is the new Jetta"

You'd like to see them pull out a 30mpg city car? Have you ever left the United States? Europe has city cars that put ours to shame. Small displacement diesels that get 60+mpg easily. Too bad they'll never exist over here because Americans are all about having the big, squandrous vehicles. They should outlaw anything that gets below 20mpg unless it's for business and they should convert all public vehicles to greasil/propane/electric where affordable... hell, the 100's of billions spent on the war could have EASILY paid for this.

And you are the PERFECT person to show the world why the people who think those cars are superior are wrong.

You are comparing a 7000 pound truck to a what, 3100 pound car?
And you have the nerve to say that you prefer the ride better on the car.. lol

well for one its a CAR, not a TRUCK. It cant pull anything, your suburban can.. thats the difference.. and why it might not ride so cushy like what pleases you.

I dont think you guys think AT ALL when comparing domestic to foreign. This is a prime example and what is usually the case.
I do know how a motor works, and I understand the differences between a Ford, Chevy and Toyota.. its clear you arent even thinking of blatantly obvious reasons and talking COMPLETELY out of your a$$.

Its a myth, a popular notion that those companys want you to believe so you buy their car instead.. nothing more.

Not to mention you probably cant get a truck over 100K because you drive it like a car?

As far as cars go, I've seen Oldsmobile Delta 88s go 300K, probably driving as easy as you drive your "sophisticated" ES300. And with the same care.
People buy domestics and beat on them, then call them junk. Foreign car elitists typically dont beat the piss out of the car.. they trade it off anyway because when they near 100K they get scared.

What you say might be what you have observed, but you really need to think it through better. Car, truck.. not the same thing. Go buy a 2006 Monte Carlo and see if it lasts as long as your ES300. I bet it will, and I bet it will be cheaper to fix when something does go wrong.. which happens on all brands and even your :wine:sophisticated:wine: engineering.

Nice stuff in that video. I'd love to have a FarCry sequel using that engine.

3) The benchmarks for this R520 board come from a Taiwanese add in board partner, so they cannot be....etc etc etc

Whats so impressive about UE3? Some higher res textures, few normals maps here and there and HDR. Yawn.

Maybe it requires a certain codec, most likely either DivX or XviD.

Are you serious?

Germans are smart bastards, just look at all the cool things they did in WWII. They had the best weapons, always coming out with crazy stuff that wowed enemies.

The Germans never had "the best weapons" in WWII. The US had the best weapon. The first thing that comes to mind is the A-Bomb. All German achievments to military science is buried by a mushroom cloud. To list other examples: Guided bombs were first invented by the US Navy. Radar and Sonar were all allied technology. Allied codebreaking and espionage was superior. Airborne warfare (gliders, parachutes troops, air transports, etc.) were better. Allies had better naval operations, better bombers, long range fighters and superior piston engine aircraft.

To sum it up the allies had better weapons in just about every thing that mattered. The Germans may have had rockets and jets, but it didnt really help them much in the end.

Heh, but you're forgetting this was with German scientists ;)

so like...DX10...is that running on the next shader model, an improved SM3 (like sm2a,b, etc)...or what...

It's not the most impressive demo I've seen...I've seen DX9 (sm3) look better...so...yeah...this isn't a good representative of DX10 IMO.

Enrico Fermi was Italian. Albert Einstein, while born in Germany, became an American citizen before the US entered the war. The other leading nuclear scientists, including Leó Szilárd, Edward Teller and Eugene Wigner, were all Hungarian Jews. Robert Oppenheimer, who is considered the "father of the atomic bomb", was an American (born in NYC) who was of German-Jewish origin.

So, ariafrost, which German scientists are you referring to?

Well, Far Cry 2 looks like a great improvement over the original. I agree though that the video featured above sucked. However I did see some super realistic grass/foliage and lighting effects. Plus the shader technology used for the characters looks a heck of a lot better than those plastic DX8 figures we've seen in the predecessor. The engine looks like its in its infancy as we all ready seen the Unreal engine in hundreds of real-time video game clips.
