Damn! That made me buy this for NO REASON :|.

I almost did the same thing yesterday!

I was just about to hit the "Buy" button and was looking for my wallet.

I pulled open a drawer and staring me in the face were 4 sticks of the same RAM that were still in the package.

I closed the drawer and turned off the computer.

Is there a pill for this sickness?

The burnout ballistix were the d9gmh variety that overclocked amazingly well. These are the new high density d9's that dont overclock as well, but dont burnout!

How can I tell if I have the d9gmh in my rig now? Currently running 4x1GB Ballistix 6400 @ 2.2v..

If the specified voltage is 2.2v then you probably have the "burnouts". I had to rma all 4 2.2v sticks of my 1gb ballastix after about 1 year. Crucial's customer service is great though. They sent me the new 2.0v revisions in less than a week. As stated earlier they do not overclock nearly as well.

Ok, thanks for the reply. Good thing I got these 🙂

Sold Out!

Glad I ordered yesterday. Bit on 2 kits for a buddy's system. will see how they do and hold up; however I have never had a problem with Ballistix.

Sadder still, I paid $190 for a 2GB kit back in 2006. And that was considered a hot deal then! (Ballistix was the big thing at the time and it was selling for over $300) But that's how it goes with tech items!

Don't bring it up, there was a time I paid $120 for a 4MB stick (and considered it a great deal). Heck, my HDD back then had 1/3rd of the capacity of a single stick in the OP and it was COOL!!

Stop whining. I paid $750 for 256K of static RAM for a S-100 CompuPro.

That was real money back then and I was happy to do so.

I have a couple sets of the older 2.2v sticks, which have been running very well for me. Great overclockers.

Anyone have any experience with this version of the Ballistix, how well do they overclock. I also purchased a set of corsair xms2 (5-5-5-18) from newegg for $25 last week.
Just need to find out which ones im gonna keep. Cant complain about memory prices, thats for sure.

I have a set of the original 2.2v 2gb kit that has been running 12/4/4/4 @ 917 2.15v for more than a year--I haven't been able to do the same with the newer 2v 800 4 gb kit, Ballistix 1066 2gb kits, Corsair XMS 800 2 gb, Dominator 1066 2/4 gb kits, or OCZ Platinum 800 kits.

Installed mine today. Tested and running great!

Aren't they very warm to touch?

No. They are quite cool even with my system mildly overclocked. They are running much cooler than the 4 1GB ballistix sticks I replaced.

How cool? Most of the memory I used recently (including some 2.20-2.25V sticks) was the same temp as the plastic of a PCI slot. Not these sticks. They are running at about 15-20C above the ambient temp .... you can still hold your finger on one (continuously), but if they ran 5-10C degrees hotter one would definitely be compelled to pull the finger away the moment one touches it. These sticks are the hottest component in my system (incl E7300, ATI4830 and 5 HDDs).

I can't tell you the exact temp, but they are not warm at all, almost cool to the touch. The sticks I replaced were like what you are describing, I could touch them but not comfortably keep my finger on them for very long. The hottest component I have is my 8800GTS 512 graphics card.

I think i was able to run this kit @1140 @2.1v when I still had the P45 MOBO and Q6600 although I didn't run stability test on it, but it's at least good to get into winows and do some light computing tasks.
