If you guys are planning to overclock these, I'd reconsider. I purchased a brand new set from the buy.com deal 3 weeks ago, and they worked fine for about 2 weeks. I went to start my computer and it wouldnt boot. It ended up being the ram, and after doing some research over on Xtreme, it seems there are a ton of people that are having these sticks die pretty fast. I ended up getting a set of OCZ Reapers from FRys.com, and they work great.

well it is life time warranty so you should get replacement for these easy instead of buying new ones

I think it's worth noting that there's a combo deal available for a BFG 7950GT, which is $160 AR, that takes an additional $20 off. So AR and everything for both of them would be ~$220. Not a bad deal.

How long do crucial Rebates take? I was really thinking about ordering another set, but the fact that I sent out the Buy.com rebate to them over 3 weeks ago now and have not even received an email confirmation that have received it, is turning me away from purchasing more of this RAM. Maybe Ultra rebates have spoiled me as well.

omg..... it is only $60 for 2gigs (6400) how can you go wrong. Don't get caught up in the hype!

i have a friend that has a lamborghini and I have a Nissan. if we both need to go to the store to get a Six Pack we both get there at the same time. Go figure!!!!!!!!!!

If you are trying to be the uber geek that can squeeze every last clock out of everything then do it. I still respect you for it. I respect the hobby/job.

I had this same conversation with my friend last week that drag races. He spends Ten's of thousands of dollars just to get an extra 1/10 of a second better. Money well spent???? NO! But he likes it and it and makes him happy... so maybe yes.

The funny thing is if he wins because he is 1/10 second faster he gets $$$$$$ so he can spend back on the hobby. I wish we got that if our computer got scored some uber amount.

Maybe some day! but today it's just gaming, outlook, dvd burn, IE, etc.

peace out!

Please correct me if I'm wrong anybody. I don't this this level of ram has anything to do with your day trading abilities. At this point, ( correct me here) you are now talking about your internet speed and bandwidth. If you have a super uber fast computer and you are connected to a 56k modem you are screwed!

I really am just trying to help and I totally see how someone (myself included) can fall into the trap of having the uber best. my computer is over 4 years old and it still does most everything. Yes, it's doesnt' have the best graphics and yes it burns a DVD in 5 minutes and not 20 seconds. But I got an itch to build something new and i wouldn't mind burning a DVD and talking on skype and playing a game at the same time :)

If you have $$$$ and don't care then by all means get what you want. if you are trying to be efficient really consider what you need the computer for and how long you will require it to do the things you need.

For example, the following setup get you multiple upgrade paths

p35c-dsr3 ------ DDR2 and DDR3 (that should last you), also gets you to penryn chips
ddr2 800------- plenty enough speed with head room then go to DDR3 if need to

I could go on but you get the idea. :)

I'll give them until July 3, and call them up then if I don't get any notification. That'll give me enough time hopefully to buy another set if all is well.

Note that this RAM needs 2.2v to hit rated specs of 800MHz at CAS 4.

Most quality RAMs are rated at 1.8Vdimm, DDR2 800 4-4-4-12. These should be able to hit +500MHz with 2-2.1V. For example, my Kingston ValueRAM is rated at DDR2 800 with 1.8V (5-5-5-18). Bumping Vdimm to 2.1V yields 480MHz @ 4-4-4-12-2T, and 540MHz @ 5-5-5-18-2T.

As always, there can be a big variation when dealing with ValueRAM.

Ballistix is supposed to be the performance line for Crucial, right?

Also a question about Dual channel memory. A friend told me that when buying 2GB for Dual Channel that the system only sees 1GB usable. Is this right?
