Crossing the border on jetskis to go site seeing is a bad idea!

David and Tiffany Hartley crossed lake Falcon to visit and take pictures at an old church in old Guerrero on the Mexico side of the lake. On their way back they where ambushed by 2 boats full of pirates that shot David in the back of the head. He is presumed dead as his wife wasn't able to drag his lifeless body onto her jetski and was forced to flee as the pirates continued shooting and pursued her past the border into american waters.

Since the attack happened on the mexican side of the lake US coast guard are unable to search for the mans body and have requested help from the mexican authorities.

I have long wondered why anyone would want to set foot (or Jetski) in that country. The bad guys clearly run the show.

On a more pragmiatic note: Mexicans are shooting each other by the thousands as a result of Drug Gangs running rampant (running the country!??!) - through to, and including government officials, the police, and the Mexican army. And while I am sympathetic to the widow, I'd also be remiss not to point out that going to Mexico for any reason is a dumb idea.

That was my first thought as well, her story just seems a bit wrong to me, but she does have witnesses, but that does not mean she did not make a deal beforehand with the thugs.

About 5 years ago I was planning the honeymoon for me and my now wife. Mexico was on the short list but even then, 5years ago, the State Dept had things like people getting killed, raped, etc... Did not think getting killed while my new bride was being raped would be a good honeymoon so we went to the Caribian.

Must have been from before the accountants took over the company. It was a sad day when "The Guy Who Knew How To Properly Dress Frets" retired in the late 70's. Haven't seen a good Les Paul since. Stopped looking a long time ago, too, to be honest.

It also seemed fishy to me, because this is about the 5th incident on Falcon in just the last couple of months. Being from the area you know this couple had to have heard the recent accounts of pirates on the lake.

Maybe they thought they could out run them on what they had. Which it seems they could, but not their bullets.
 
The local news has been doing personality profiles on the couple. They were a squeaky clean wholesome pair who had every thing going their way but hit a few rough patches with his employment situation. There was enough money in the budget for vacations and water sport toys.

They were blissfully unaware of the dangers on the lake which is bisected by an international border. Their naivety is similar to the three kids that were hiking on the Iran/Iraq border.

I am saddened by his murder, but this is foolish behavior ending in death.

That only applies to brown-skinned people. White people should never be shot and if they are the white people should send brown-skinned people to kill the other brown-skinned people. This is how the world works.

iirc, combat deaths in iraq/afghanistan have been white in a greater proportion than in the forces on the ground in general. the brown-skinned people had the sense to stay in the rear and fix broken stuff instead.
