CrossFire vs SLI @ AMDZone

I dunno. Crossfire seems really really fragile to me. Too many "AFR works in this game, but not this game, then you have to switch to supertiling mode, but that's 30% slower maybe more, but even then some games can't use supertiling mode, then you have to use scissor mode and who knows what'll happen then".

It might be an easy driver fix, but damn, I find it hard to believe that many here would have any faith in SLI if it were that inconsistent. Throw in the fact that the cheapest Crossfire mobo listed in that article is $209 compared to the cheapest SLI baord at $100...

I'm not even 100% clear on what Rollo keeps referring too regarding Crossfire's resolution limitations and what not...

I just dont really like the "feel" of Crossfire.

xfire is indeed a rushed non-finished product, shame on ati for releasing it w/ proper fixes/support by games

And comparision of 6800 Ultra SLI vs X850 CrossFire (Features, Performance, IQ) would have been a more fair comparision.

who buys based on features, performance when there is such a huge gap in price range?

the cards they compared cost about the same to set up in a rig. this is what gamers and buyers look for, unless you're a fanboy.

current card is 6800 nonpro, previous card was X800 pro, changed over about 2 weeks ago... mainly because there was a $60 diff between the two (buy/sell) and i need the money for uni.

x800/x850 cross fire is pretty much a knee jerk reaction (albeit a slow one) to SLI.....this edition of cross fire smacks of "junkyard wars" engineering. its been hashed together too fast and in an attempt to be a bit different and abit radical its fallen short of all its targets.

i mean its got all these rendering modes...then you actually look at them and half of them cant be used on opengl, some can only be used on 16 pipe cards, some dont scale geometry very well.....they'd of been much better off just giving it AFR and SFR and be done.

then you got the idiotic 16x12@60hz limit, then the ghetto dongle arrangement at the back then to top it off it holds a few insignificant leads in some, what are now rather old, games. quake 4, and fear being the latest games to play and the performance is shocking especially in FEAR....i presume this is something borked in the drivers and i hope they fix it.

 heres to hoping x1800xt crossfire will be made properly

X850 Crossfire is limited to 100X1200 @60Hz, which pretty much rules it out for every CRT owner.

A 60Hz refresh rate would be hard to look at very long, it would literally hurt on a CRT.

LCDs are another story, so this would be OK on LCDs up to 20" that have a native res of 16X10 and lower.
