3) What's a good cricket site. I used to be a fan when i lived in the U.K., but i lost touch with the sport once i moved to the U.S. Please provides URL's b!tches.. thanks :D

EA Sports came out with a new game Cricket 2004 this past year.. it's pretty good IMO

I cricket'97 Aushes tour edition and I like that more than the cricket 2002. I haven't played the cricket' 2004. Is it any good ? Can I download a demo online to get a feel of the game ?

I like cricket 2004 better than 2002... you can check the easports website to see if there is a demo available.. i'm not sure.. but i don't think you can purchace the game at stores in North America.. you can download the "unofficial" demo from certain sites however.

check out local bars and see if they have the games or are odring them.

I know in toronto there are many bars that have dishes that get the big matches.. conviently there are quite a few located close to my work (which is why i was "busy" for most of the world cup last year.. hahah.. ) but i know quite a few west indian bars in the city that will have this series.

India is going to roll over Pakistan. Pakistan's batting sucks and their bowling depends heavily on Shoaib and Sami. Contrast that to the Indian batting where even if one player gets going (Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman, Ganguly...list goes on), the Pakistani bowling is going to get slaughtered. I cant wait for it to begin :)

Hey,
What's the name of the recent Pakistani spin bowler who used to do a wierd jump step before he let go of the ball? Was it Adbul Qadir (pardon the spelling). I used to imitate him sometimes. Cricket brings back good memories for me.
I was hit on the head by a ball that i didn't see coming once. I went down like a ton of bricks. Cricket is bloody Violent !
So for all of you who were thinking that i was dropped on my head as a kid.. you're wrong!

I think it will not be as one sided as some thing. Not that I wan't India to loose but the pressure factor will play on the Indians but it'll be fun so see it either of the teams go 2 down like India goes 2 up, the crowd will kill the beloved patriot players. It'll be fun.
I think Miandad is the main threat to Indians, he is a very tactical player and influence the flow of game. Last I remember he was the coach when India played pak, and Sidhu was banging the beloved patriot bowlers, Javed came in drinks and marked a spot where he wanted the captain to put a fielder. The next thing you know is that Sidhu was caught at the same spot.

I just got back from watching the match on pay per view..only $39.99CDN for one match. Decent deal when you have 7 people splitting the costs.

As for the game? It was beautiful, totally well worth it. Both sides played excellently (altho their both sides bowling sucked). I was dissappointed with Shoaib Aktar. But was impressed wiht their batsmen...kudos to them..they played beautifully.

I was more impressed iwth India's fielding. Compared to their previous matches with Australia, it was nice to see them actually field well. That's what saved them today.

All in all, excellent match...close till the very end. I can't wait to see how the next few matches will come up.

btw, anyone know why VVS Laxman wasn't playing?? Is he injured?

do you guys think they will be able to top this?

Personally I think India is gonna have a tough time. If Pakistan can chase a 350 with only three batsmen (I mean they did hte bulk of hte runs), then India has trouble. Their fielding was topnotch, but they need to bowl better..altho they only had two no balls which was good.

Too bad Pakistan scored more for us than Tendulkar...hehe

We bowled very well actually. It was not our fault that we were getting hit. The pitch was just as flat as it gets and it wasnt really possible to contain the batsmen. Though if I had to get rid of one bowler, it would be Kartik. He stinks and I wish we had Harbhajan or Kumble :( Also our batting was top notch and we played very well though the last five overs in our batting sucked big time. 25 runs?? WTF is up with that? Looked like Kaif and Dravid were more afraid of losing their wickets than going for the big hits. That kind of negative attitude with so many wickets in hand is not going to get us anywhere.

i know what cricket is but no idea what the object is.

Can you give me cliff notes on how the game is played, the names of the positions and the object?

i thought it was for pansies. looks like it on t.v. its actually kinda hard. i tried playing with my cousin, there is a definite skill level involved, how to pitch the ball, curve it, etc. kinda like baseball but harder because bowling requires you to do it with a weird arm rotation. some of those guys do throw it like 100mph though. also, those balls are fvcking hard. don't let it hit you in the face. its a lot harder than a baseball.

The balls can make you blind if it hits your eye, and it has happened...the ball somehow went thru the facae guard and damaged the eye.

I found cricket to be very technical. The pitch, the humidty & moisture in the air, the seams off the ball, the texture of the ball itself, etc.. they all make a difference. The bowlers can make it so that a certain edge of the seam of the ball can hit the ground first to give it a odd curve on the rebound.

It's a fsking hard game to play, and I suck at it. Of course I just got into it last summer so thats my excuse.

Bowling:

In cricket, each team gets 50 "overs" to "bowl". An over consists of 6 attempts at launching the ball to the batter(batsman). Bowling is the action of throwing the ball at the batsman. It's very complex and takes some getting used to. There are different styles of bowling that are unique to each player. Some bowlers have their own tricks and that makes them valuable. The two main styles of bowling are fast and spin. Unlike baseball, in bowling you can either launch the ball directly at the batsman or let it bounce once before it reaches the batsman.

Spin bowling involves making the ball spin in the air before it hits the ground, causing it to deviate from its line before reaching the batsman. Kinda like a curveball, but not quite since in baseball the ball curves in the air, while in spin bowling it deviates (depending on the direction the ball is spinning) once it hits the ground.

Fast bowling, basically involves a long run up (so that the bowler gains speed) before he launches the ball much much faster than a spinner does at the batsman.

Batting:

There are always 2 batsmen on the field, and they stand at opposite ends of a pitch, which is a rectangular section of the field located right at the center of the circular field, that is rough and where all the action takes place. The batsmen wear full protective gear and padding, coz being hit by a cricket ball will easily break your bones and send you to your deathbed if hit on the head.

When batting, you see a bowler launching a ball at you, your aim is to hit it. Once hit, the ball usually travels very fast and can travel on the field or in the air. you score a run, which is when the batsmen run in the opposite direction along the pitch. Each run is counted at one run (mentioning this coz of basketball where each basket is a 2). You can score more runs if you hit the ball so that it crosses the boundary of the field. You score 4 runs if the ball lands on the ground and then reaches the boundary edge before a fielder can get to it. Unlike baseball, the fielders have no mitts and have to catch it with their bare hands, which takes some getting used to, since there is a style to it. You can get 6 runs, if you hit it so that it travels in the air and crosses the boundary (similar to hitting it into the crowd in baseball).

A batsman guards his stumps(there are 2 on each side of the pitch that the batsmen run to) which are 3 sticks in the ground that he stands in front of. If when attempting to bat, instead he misses and the ball hits the 3 sticks, he is out. He can also get out if he is run out, i.e after hitting the ball, and attempts to run with the other batsman, he doesnt make it in time to reach the other end and a fielder hits his stumps. He can also get out if he is caught out, if the ball travels directly after hitting his bat to a fielder before it hits the ground.

The above rules seem complex, but then I though American football was complex, but its seems easy now. Once you watch a game with someone to explain it to you, you'll realize how cool it is.
