i heard creative remote center 1.21 works with this remote and seems a lot more user friendly from the screenshots i've seen of the program. only problem is I can't seem to find it anywhere to d/l it. Even creative doesn't carry it anymore..Anyone know where else I can find it?

Good call. I'll archive this page daily just in case, and if/when it's closed, mirror it on my webspace. :)

Flip the remote over and look at the bottom (not the back, the bottom). You'll see a very small slide-out. Push the notched part in (looks like a vertical = character), toward the slide-out, and use your finger/thumbnail to pull the slide-out out. Drop the battery in with the + facing up, matching the + on the slide-out. Re-insert, with the + side facing the back of the remote.

No. Just wasn't in the mood to scroll up and down, or chop up a big copy/paste into usable format. *shrug*

Besides... quantity doesn't matter. Quality does. ;-)

For those of you having trouble with the volume in Winamp, just go to the key selection screen (under Creative Remote Selector). There's an option to change the main volume (sound board volume), as opposed to the volume on Winamp. Remap the volume buttons and you should have a volume switch that works a little better. Hope this helps.

Well I just got my remote today and it looks great. Running WinXP and installed the software on the CD. That stuff seemed to work fine, but only controlled one app at a time.

I tried using that IRAssistant program, but that is posing some problems. I can set up a macro to open winamp, but I can't get play, stop, forward, ect... to work. Any ideas?

If people have macros working for programs, maybe we can set something up where they export those and let us other unlucky guys import those and hopefully get things to work? :)

I have had problems using macros with IRAssistant as well. I had my HTPC working fine with an earlier version but as soon as I updated to the latest they all stopped working. I assume there is a bug, but I haven't seen it addressed anywhere.

Check out the IrAssistant downloads page again. it has exactly what you're looking for

Got mine a few days ago.... installed it yesterday. Was very happy to let my computer sit there, the monitor went to standby after 3 minutes, and still I was able to change tracks on WinAmp from across the room at my homework desk. Normally I'd have to log in to WinXP again (password-protected screen saver... annoying roommates using my computer while I'm gone) to change it... turning on the monitor again, etc. I was pleasantly surprised that it controlled WinAmp through the WinXP password protection. I'm very happy with the remote :)

BTW I think the best use of this remote in WinAmp, if you have a huge playlist, is to put WinAmp in Shuffle mode and just hit the 'next' button when it comes to a song you don't like or you just don't want to hear at the time. Also RAQemUP the Shift-(Next-Track) button will skip 10 songs in WinAmp if you're going through a playlist sequentially.

edit: oh yeah, my CD also wasn't readable, so I had to d/l the drivers/software here http://www.compgeeks.com/drivers/Creative_Remote.zip

I had a heck of a time getting Winamp to work, too. Turned out to be that I was hitting Shift when I was typing the letting I wanted for the keyboard emulation. Winamp interpretted that as Shift + the letter, and it passed along Shift + letter to Winamp. When I remapped each of the macros to a lowercase letter, it worked beautifully.

Here (right-click and save, or it'll open in a window instead of downloading) is what I have mine set up for. It's the entire set of groups and macros I use, set for general volume control, ATi DVD player, CD player, PowerDVD, Winamp, and WinTV. You should be able to just download it, rename irassist.cmd in your IRAssistant directory, and copy the downloaded irassist.cmd to there. Launch IRAssistant, and re-train the buttons as you see fit.

I'd provide a list of buttons used for each program, but I've got to get ready for work now. :-/

Eh, IRAssistant still giving me headaches. Thanks for the help though. Might just stick with the default software for now. All I really needed to control was winamp and media player anyways. No need for a macro to launch each either, I'll open each when I want it anyways.

But yea, this remote is great, no more having to getup and goto the computer to change songs. Random play does work the best too.

Is there anyway we can have the default software use winamp3 instead of winamp? The program defaults to winamp, even though I have both winamp 2.8 and winamp 3 installed. There doesn't seem to be anyway to customize the program path.
