Crap! finally I had to activate my Win XP

I love legally pirating XP...

I have XP Pro that came with my laptop.. But since I didn't feel like installing all the Toshiba crap, I just used a pirated version of XP.. It's funny cause the actual number on the Microsoft sticker on my laptop doesn't even work.

I also have XP Corporate on my desktop.. It is the hacked pirated version. But, I am free to download a legal copy from my school's computer any time I want. I don't want to, though.. Why the fvck should I have to get Microsoft's permission to throw a new graphics card in my computer?

I change hardware alot and have only had to call microsoft using 98SE NOT xp pro, even though I've installed xp pro on about 3 different HDs and 4 different mobos.

It's all relative anyways (a logical fallacy), to make a universal statement about everything being relative is not a relative proposition since it's a universal 😉

Same line as our original poster is posting.

Hypocracy is circular baby

It's not really a big deal if you change hardware constantly. I paid *gasp* for XP Pro and after major upgrades I just had to call to reactivate, took less than 5 whole mins.

Does putting a new stick of RAM require that I call Microsoft to re-activate XP Pro?

I'll probably be in minority for this, but I've had to call MS after I swapped out 2 256mb sticks for 2 512mb sticks. The last HW change (MS intellimouse -> Logitech MX500) prior to the memory upgrade required me to call MS as well.

you can upgrade your machine you fud spreading monkey. When it finally bitches at you and says call for the activation just call the toll free number and they will take care of it.

I guess you should spend some time to read what others are saying. Even monkeys, like me, will understand the reasons for fud.

😀

I'm sorry, was that suggesting that you legally own XP corp edition for your own personal/home use - odd since windows licensing has started to go more towards locations and use (note how academic programs are being cut back to only professors and not students) ? -or- is that a reference to how the warez copies of xp are usu. corp editions ?

I have been abstaining from activating my Win XP Pro, since I do hardware changes very often. I had installed fresh copies couple of times to achieve that. Tonight while trying to break the activation mechanism it got locked and I had to finally activate it...

I will never buy anything from Microsoft again ... I have, sitting in my box, Win98, WinNT and now WinXP ...
I feel like hand-cuffed by M$ (from upgrading my machine)

I hate Microsoft.

What did you say!???

Who cares?!?! It's only 5 fvcking minutes of your life - quit your bitching. I've have to call micorsoft 4 times to reactivate my machine, and I've had no problems at all. If you want to boycott MS because of that, then tough sh!t, it's your loss.

What was the thread about a security update for WinXP that was causing a computer to slow down? Can't seem to find it...

What part of "legally owning XP Corporate Edition" escaped you? 😛

Personal/home use? You foolishly assume that I'm not an entreprenuer. 😀

Actually, that was XP SP1 itself - it affected only a certain few programs and was quickly addressed by MS and the companies in question. (IIRC.)

This is why I still run Windows2000Pro on my main system. My main backup machine runs a no activation needed full version of XP-Pro with all updates but it seems a bit silly with all the "helpful" nonsense included.

I still ask the question.. what is so bad about Win2KPro?

It's missing all the wonderful activation/monitoring technology. Which is why the MS plan is to phase it into reduced-support, in favour of pushing the new Server 2003. 😛 And of course, Longhorn replaces XP in 2004.

So MS has fixed the problem? Therefore, I don't need to uninstall any of the updates?
