In all our defenses, we weren't trying to fix your email problem. Your email problems really had nothing to do with the advice given about CL. Besides, we assume that basic operation of email should be a given so really, how would we know you were having issues w/ emailing?
And why did you try using a new email client if it's not typically what you use? I have no idea what forte agent or whatever is, but I mean, I'm not really following how you messed up using/sending an email. Why didn't you just send an email out with your normal email client?
Very good question. I rarely do. I suppose there was a prompt to double click the sender's email address in the CL page (it's easier that selecting the address, copying it to the clipboard, opening or switching to my email program, starting a new email, pasting in the address, filling out the subject line... a LOT easier!). When I simply double clicked the sender's CL email address on the CL listing, Windows Mail opened with the post configured and all I had to do was enter my message. It's happened before and I've never been burned. In this instance, the consequences were nasty. I'll not be doing that again, or if I do, hopefully I'll remember to:
1. Have WM configured to leave messages on the server.
2. Have WM configured to at least be able to send emails.
I'm not continuing to use Forte Agent because it's necessarily better than Windows Mail. It's for two basic reasons:
1. I have data (email inbox, outbox, a few dozen folders, subscribed newsgroups in the many dozens, downloaded and in some cases flagged newsgroup posts) going back over a decade. I don't know that it's possible to export that data to Windows Mail (or whatever other email program). I often search for (if necessary) and refer to information in this voluminous data (over 1GB).
2. Forte Agent is very convenient and self contained. It makes no entries in the registry. You can drop it in any location, point to the EXE and it works, period. No troublesome exports and imports of data necessary.
