I don't respond to lowballers. But I do delate my ad as soon as I sell it.
I didn't try to lowball the guy. It's not my style, although I suppose I would under some circumstances. My first email did ask a lot of questions, stuff like where he got it, was it new, did it have the lens hood, stuff anyone would want to know. No reply. My next email didn't ask anything other than for the seller to call or email me. I thought maybe I was too pushy at first. Didn't imagine it had been sold and they didn't want to bother. Naive me.

The thing with craigslist is that most email responses you get as a seller are spam, or extreme low ball offers and general wastes of time.

You even get the guys who come to buy something and then magically show up with $20 less than the amount you're selling an item for...

As a person who lists stuff on craigslist, I find it a general pain to deal w\ people locally because of having to take time to meet somewhere, or invite a stranger to my house... etc.

If a seller doesn't respond to your email, I'd assume that they no longer have the item for sale.

Many don't know about killing the ad when sold. I dealt with a fucktard over this one day. I sell on a Monday late and Tuesday morning he asked if it was still available pretty early.

I had killed the ad by the time I got his email.

I replied even to let him know "I am sorry it sold last night".

Fucking idiot sent like 3 emails about me wasting everyone's time.

So now about once a month I reply "thanks for the inquiry but the scanner has been sold".

:)

CL is mostly flaky. You have to be persistent.

Then again, I know people that live like kings off of CL. for serious.

Making fun of me, churlish bastard?

Well, I'm not upset about it, I just wanted to know what my options were. Again, I've never bought a single thing off CL. I thought maybe there was something built into the CL system. Ebay doesn't have issues like that, AFAIK. You must have a lot of good friends, eh?

By "camera equipment", do you really mean escort?
Maybe she only works on the weekends.

It's CL. Don't get bent out of shape about it. It's a total crapshoot when it comes to buying and selling on CL.

There are no rules/regulations like ebay has so you can't really expect too much outside of common courtesy from it.

I'm surprised a lifer on AT doesn't know how CL works...
Really? Why? We're not all the same. "Different strokes for different folks." There's folks here that haven't built a PC, never built a network, never written a line of code. I'm not one of them, though. :whiste:

I getcha. Thanks for the tip.

I'm a long time ebayer. Bought over 100 times, sold maybe 20 times. Ebay has tons of functionality, rules, protocols. When something's sold, you know it. When it's reposted, they email you. I wondered if there was anything at all on CL. Seems like zilch. Anyway, AFAIK there are no fees and that's a biggie!

Yeah, the great thing is that it's a free service.

I'd gladly put more effort into selling something on CL to avoid the ~10% of combined fees from ebay and paypal. I mean it's just too much of a rip off to lose 10% of your total sale one ebay.

No lie. Do you think Meg Whitman is going to get elected governor of CA? :whiste:

Well, dig this: The item has reapeared on CL, posted today. Exact same listing, same price, same everything. The seller never answered my email. WTF. Well, I just sent the seller another email. Dang.

then again, if you have an obscure item, the global exposure of ebay may be helpful.

I can't tell if this is some sort of joke or parody. Does Craigslist really confuse you that much?

are you making a lower offer than what it's selling for? Are you requesting to paypal them and then pick it up? Are you asking them to ship the item?

What are you looking at and what's the price? If it's too good to be true, a lot of times its a scam.

No, not confused. I just wanted to know if there was some way to determine why a seller hasn't responded to me although the item appears to still be available. What's so strange about that?

NOTA. I'm willing to pay full price, pick it up, pay them in good old American cash. It's as though they never got my emails. They reposted the listing yesterday, exactly as it appeared about 10 days ago, so it's evidently still for sale and at the same asking price. I posted to CL support an inquiry suggesting the seller is not getting forwarded emails. I don't know that CL will pay any attention, but I figure it can't hurt to ask. It's not TGTBT but I don't want to link the listing because I don't want anyone to snipe me out of the deal. It's a discontinued item. It wouldn't do me or anyone any good for me to link it anyway. FYI the asking price is between $350 and $400.

Finally figured out what was happening:

On Saturday, when I first saw the CL listing, I clicked the CL seller email address to send a message to the seller, and Windows Mail opened. I don't normally use WM. WM errored, i.e. the message never went to the seller. Having seen that there was an error, I resent the message using my usual email client. However, I didn't close WM. WM's default is to download email every 30 minutes and delete the messages from the server. So, I never saw the seller's response from Saturday. Just today I noticed that I had ~20 messages in WM Inbox. I tried to forward from there but still got errors and I called my provider (ATT/SBC/Yahoo DSL). After around a 30-45 minute call, the CSR was able to finally determine the settings necessary in WM to enable sending messages. It was fine downloading, but sending required a different batch of settings than those used by my Forte Agent email program. Mystery solved!
