Went to the sears and saw the 254 piece tool set for $149 and thought it was a killer deal since normal price is $269. I decided to buy it and it rang up at $94!!

Item #33354, very similar to this set:

item #33263

There are only a few items different. both boxes were side by side in the store so I compared.

Then I came home and my friend told me that I could've gotten an extra 10% off if i was in the club! Sucks..wonder if they will price adjust if I ask.

Does that set have the easy to read/laser etched markings on the socket set? Even if it isn't, that's a heck of a deal.

How sturdy is that case, when fully loaded? I'm jaded these days on plastic for anything heavy.

not a bad deal @ all...i was just complaining about the amount of sockets I have and how i can never find what I need. Unfortante for me I need a good metric set. I have Most of your popular sizes for ase...This would be awesome if it had screw drivers

Craftsman tools are not really all that great, but the cool thing is that Sears is great about replacing them. That is the main reason most of my tools are Craftsman. I bought a Kobalt socket (deep 19MM 6point for my old Mercedes lug nuts) and it cracked. Lowe's no longer stock the socket and could not give me another one. I had read that Snap On makes Kobalt tools, not sure if that is true, but Lowe's returns on tools sucks. At Sears you take the broken tool in and they give you another one. I had an 1/2 inch drive socket wrench that I bought on clearance at least 15 years ago for like $12, but at the time it was there top end ratchet wrench. I dropped it in the snow early one winter and it got plowed into the snow bank and it sat there all winter till spring thaw when I found it all rusted an locked up. It had a worn cam anyway, but I took it back and they gave me a new $40 ratchet no questions asked. Even if they have to break open a set they will replace whatever you break, even if it is obvious it was your fault, can't beat that. Home Depot's Husky tools used to be good too, but they are now made in China or some other Asian country, where ever will make them the cheapest. They now make you call an 800 number to get get replacements, not very helpful if you have your car on jack-stands and need to get it back together to go to work on Monday! End of tool rant.

I could be wrong, but I think that even if you're a Craftsman Club member, the additional 10% off applies only during Craftsman Club Saver Day sale events. YMMV of course, but that's the way I interpreted the membership rules...

very good set and deal. however, if you know you're going to be working mainly on an import or domestic car, it would be wise to just get an entirely metric set for imports, or entirely SAE set for domestics. i use metric sockets 99.99% of the time, so the SAE ones are just a waste of money and space.

I might have to look at this in the store. I have been debating getting a good mix of tools. Although, I might have to see if they have either a mix US and metric since my car is in metric or I might just look to see if that have a metric version...

I've done some decent things to some craftsman tools in the past and they were replaced without issue (although they did want to hear the story on some of them because they were pretty interesting looking :D )

Great deal if you are starting out-basically a full set of ASE and metric sockets, plus some wrenches.

Sears is excellent on their exchanges on Craftsman tools. I brought in a socket handle once when the racket didn't work right anymore and they gave me a brand new one in ten seconds. But remember that this warranty applies only to tools branded "Craftsman" and not the cheaper Sears line. I think the unlimited warranty is only for hand tools also.

gotta love their warranty, used to have a craftsman pocket knife years and years ago. when it would get too dull, instead of sharpening id stick it in the crack of the sidewalk (right outside of sears) and break the tip off the blade. walk right in the store and they would exchange for a new one. i'd never do that now, and im not proud of it but hell i was like 18 at the time.

I love craftsman, I have this set, and the only thing I don't like about it is the case. It is a rugged plastic and thats fine, but the drawers stick. When you go to open the drawers you have to pull so hard that when it finally gives the sockets in the drawer fly around. I think craftsman meant it to be a carrying case b/c of the handle on top. I am not sure why anyone would walk around with that honkin thing hanging on their side, but whatever.

So true

I used to take my set on MX and trail rides. Since I don't have any time to ride (and not physically able to), I use the tools for car repairs. They have worked well for me over the years.

I was considering this until I remembered my grandpa has absolutely tons of tools sitting around that I should just use instead. Oh well, nice price anyways :)

d33pt,
I hope this really works as it will cause my son to quit "moving" my tools from my garage to his garage.
"Movement" should stop right around Christmas.

d33pt we need a scan. I was quoted full price as well, minus the Craftsman Club discount.

RideFree, I wish you good luck. My tools have "grown legs" for years!
