I wouldn't say it's a better sandbox than GTA, although jumping around on buildings is fun. The dialog from pedestrians/enemies is extremely repetitive and annoying though. I'm so sick of hearing 'THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING!'

I disagree with your assessment of the game being 'broken' because of your superhuman abilities. You're not immortal or anywhere near immortal. I remember progressing fairly normally though the game and still having issues with lieutenants, no matter what my abilities were. In Shai Gen for example, the lieutenants are typically somewhere you can't just simply jump to (remember the dude in the big glass sphere?). RealTime Worlds did a fantastic job with the game balance.

You're never immortal but you can jump so far that on the more open bases, you can avoid most of the grunts. I was doing a Shai Gen mission this weekend, jumped onto the roof of the old woman's base, then saw her in a glass corridor on the inside. Ran straight in there and killed her, mission over cos all of the grunts disappear. I've done the same elsewhere, maxed out agility is crazy. As for the sphere, that took 2 minutes at the most. As soon as you get in and spot the lieutenants, you can jump up and know the boss will be right next to them. Repeated rocket launcher to the face = game over man!

I would say Crackdown would have been better than GTA IV if it weren't so short. I liked most aspects of Crackdown better than GTA IV except the driving, which just sucks at lower levels. It sucked os much that I did it so infrequently that I never leveled it up. You can jump and run so fast that it's not worth driving most of the time.

I really, really wish they were making a Crackdown 2.
Oh man, you missed out not getting your driving skill. To level fast, just run gang members over, after a few minutes in the SUV, it is gravy to do. The trick is a light fender bender to get their attention, then stopping just long enough for them to start to exit the car, then gun it into which ever guy you are on the side of. The other tactic is reverse donuts after they dodge to the side. The 3rd is use the semi once you have a couple stars and hit their cars at high speed=instant deaths pretty frequently.

Why I say you missed out, is that once you max the SUV and learn the timing you can climb right up the side of Wang's Shai-gen Tower, or almost anything else. You can also do a lift jump and stunt it up way easier. Well worth it IMO. It lets you use the machine guns on the car, which lets you level up your firearms faster too. The expansion pack brought an armored car with a missle launcher that levels both driving and explosives quickly.

For those who say it is too easy, play on hardest difficulty, and don't kill the low bosses first, but instead, go right after the kingpins, you'll get your ass handed to you for a change. ;)

For CO-OP try some rocket tag. You can't lock on your partner, so trying to hit a guy that can jump 30ft at a clip is a bitch. If he gets a little distance between you, it is almost impossible to get a slow ass rocket where you need it to hit. It is also difficult to realize just how hard it is to follow another master agent who is evading until you try it.

1 of the best games for 360 IMhumbleO.

Wow. I always ignored this game, but will have to give it a whirl once I get through my current backlog:

GTA4, Mass Effect, Burnout Paradise

Picked it up last night. Loads of fun. This is what I miss about GTA. Just doing whatever you want when you want without all the superfluous distractions (dating, cut scenes, etc). Definitely what I was looking for. Thanks all.

I actually managed to play it for a bit last night.

Definitely the best addition to the game is the free "Keys to the City" DLC.

Godmode + infinite ammo + maxed everything + Firefly rocket launcher + spawn explosive barrels = insanity

This game gave me more "holy shit" moments than GTA4 - and actually the majority of other games I've played.

I remember one time I had max agility and driving skill and decided to go through and kill all the bosses again. One is far up on the top of this building - I was on my way there in the SUV when I hit a ramp and launched my car sky-high - actually jumping OVER the building he was in. As he was right below me, I jumped out of the SUV, guns ablazing, and finished him off by landing on his face with a ground stomp. It was like something out of a Michael Bay movie.

The only thing that would make this game completely epic is if there was a boss who was on the same level as you in terms of abilities. I can only imagine how insane a superhero battle it would be - skipping building to building - throwing each other 1000 feet - throwing cars at each other. The co-op is somewhat close, but you can't hurt each other which I think was a major miss.

On the flip side, though, after playing for an hour or two last night, I think I got my fill for another few weeks until I get the urge to aimlessly destroy everything again.

 Imagine how cool it would be to have a chase across the rooftops. There's so much that could be done in terms of boss battles. It really is a shame that there are no plans for a sequel.

makes me want to go boot this game up again! I heard they made crackdown just so they could test out some game mechanics for APB...which looks like the ultimate online experience for any sandbox gamer

I thought, after you beat the final Shai-gen boss, that something like that would happen. I was pretty disappointed.

Otherwise, this is one of the most under-rated titles currently out and it's on the strength of this title alone that I'm really, REALLY looking forward to APB.

I feel the same way. I would play Crackdown for hours on end, but with GTA4, the most I could take was a couple missions. Didn't even get past 25% before it went on the shelf and RockBand went back in the 360.

Dude, that's exactly what happened to me...

Except last weekend I pushed myself to about 50% on GTA4... Then back went in the Rock Band disc!

I have only been playing the crackdown demo. Its fun but I dont see how many are comparing it with a GTA game. Unless the demo is radically different than the full game. Either way its pretty fun.

It's the same genre (sandbox), but an entirely different take on it. A better take on it in many ways.

It's kind of like Diablo (or a hack & slash level up game) combined with GTA. You get the sandbox environment with the crack addiction aspect of constantly wanting to get to that next agility or weapons proficiency. Plus the wide open rooftop hopping gameplay just makes for endless ways to accomplish the missions.

It really was one of the best games I've played in a long time. I really wish they had a PS3 port of it.

IMO, Crackdown hardly has any of the depth that GTA4 has. The civilians, police and even the missions to kill the baddies are not as exciting. I just felt too distant from the characters and the city itself.... I have Crackdown, Saints Row, and GTA4 and the way I would have ranked them (even though Crackdown is pretty innovative) is GTA4 > Saints Row > Crackdown. With saints row coming close even though you can't do fly heli's and such. I'm rating by fun factor, variety of side things to do, and depth of envrionment + story.

I'd say it's worth it for the price it's going for now if you just want another game to play. But if you're anything like me, you might be underwhelmed after killing a couple of boss baddies.

No game appeals to everyone /shrug

For myself, the most fun comes from being creative, something many games don't permit. Set up massive stunts using ramp trucks and exploding barrels, and the harpoon gun in the expansion pack is a blast. Skewer 4 or 5 thugs to your ride as decoration. It is also excellent for sniping, and f you hit a thug at the right angle up close, they will fly hundreds of feet until they stick to something in the way. Climb buildings in the SUV, do crazy stunts in the rail buggy, use the super car for completing races in heavy traffic. CO-OP opens up even more possible sources of amusement.

If I played it just for the missions, I'd have been done with it for good, with-in a week or 2.

I agree.

It's a superhero simulator. They give you a world to play in and some weapons to blow crap up. Basically every movable object is free game to do what you want with.

It's not about the missions - they intentionally have no depth. There is no story. It's about gradually building your character into a superhuman cop of destruction while doing whatever to whoever you want in the world they dump you in.

I'm a big fan.

How long did you play it, and what levels did you get your skills up to? How many bosses did you take down?

ok. i put a couple more hours into the game. i must say once your agility gets to one star the game improves. i am at 2 star agility now and since u can jump places the game seems to improve a lot more. so now the game is decent and has grab my attention. so ill keep playing it. if they started you out with better jumping i would say the game would be better.

i have no real desire to get my explosive or driving abilities up. is it worth it

Driving - eh, not really - though some have said they like the special abilities you get. But explosives - hell yes!

With max explosives, a single grenade has a huge radius and can basically take out a whole city block.

I suggest downloading the free pack for the game which gives you the "keys to the city". It's basically a cheat mode that disables saves and achievements but lets you turn on god mode, unlimited ammo, and max out your stats (and even get super-maxed out stats you can't get otherwise).

God mode and unlimited ammo with a rocket launcher really turns the world into a huge playground.

I had more fun with leveled explosives than with leveled agility... if that means anything to you.
