Im using a Gigabyte SINXP1394 Motherboard with a Celeron 1.7 CPU with a Thermal Electric Cooler cooling the CPU and a heatsink and fan cooling off the TEC. But for some reason the system runs fine in Idle running at about 20C or below (Lowest so far is 14C right after booting it up one day). Anyways for some reason anytime i load up anything that use's 100% of the CPU the Temp goes up to 74C in about 3 mins and stays there. When i minimize or even change to a different window the CPU temp starts dropping down and will reach down to 30C to 40C over a bit of time. When i close the program using the CPU the temp drops back down to 20C to 30C in a matter of seconds. Also i have BIOS set to Alarm when the CPU temp goes over 70C but it never does go off. Any one know why my CPU temp would go up and down like that. Even when i minimize or change to a different window under task manager it still shows the programs using 99% of the CPU but the CPU temp keeps droping.

No matter whats going on, being over 60 C in full load is to much IMO. You should look into new cooling for that. As for it always being at 100% use whenever you do something, what kind of programs you got running in the background?

Side note.. Why are you running a 1.7 Celly in a a SINXP???????

AnandTech reviews of the 1.7 Celeron say it runs hot... hotter than P4's from what I understand... you'll need some very decent cooling to overclock it.

Im not overclocking it its running at its normal speed. And i have a Thermal Electric Cooler, Cooling it off. It runs nice in idle mode at 15 to 20 C but when i do anything that uses 100% of the CPU like Games the cpu temp jumps to 74C and as soon as i close it, it goes back down to 20C in a few seconds, One thing i would like to ask when i got the Heatsink trimed down so the TEC would fit under it it was trimed a little more then the TEC cooler is thick so there would have been a small gap but i used some thermal Epoxy to put the TEC on the heatsink do you think maybe i didnt get enough Epoxy on it to fill up the small gap that was made between the CPU and TEC and maybe its not getting a good heat flow between the two but enough to take it down to 15 to 20 C idle but when the CPU's making alot of heat its not getting enough of the TEC touching the CPU to get rid of the heat fast enough, but if thats the problem why does it never go past 74C no matter what. And im using a Celeron 1.7 with a sinxp board cause i spent all my money on the board and Memory and didnt have enough left to buy a new CPU so still using my old one. But im gonna have some more extra money this week so still debating on which i wanna upgrade my CPU to a P4 2.4 or my Video Card from a Geforce 4 MX440 to maybe a Geforce 4 TI 4800.

This is strange i just took the Bus up to 105 to overcloak it alittle bit and the CPU temp stayed at 72C at 100% went to 73C a few times but never 74C why would the CPU temp go down 1C at full load when i overclock it?

It shouldn't really jump that high that fast. My 2400+ is 46C at idle, 52C at full load, and it takes a while to get there. Maybe a problem with the program you are using to measure the temp? Try looking in the BIOS for a temp right after, or touching the HSF to see if it really is getting that hot.

Like I said... AnandTech reported that the 1.7's run very hot... don't think they say how hot... but they said very hot... so I'm assuming that's not a common occurance.

Im using MBM 5 and Easy Tune 4 which came with my motherboard to see the temp, but i do know BIOS has to be getting it some place else that isnt reading over 70C cause i have it set on to Alarm when the CPU temp goes over 70C but it never does, and 50C temp jump from Idle to Full Load just dont seem right. It was running at 74C in full load before i installed the TEC and still is after i think the temp sensor must be broke or something. Probably gonna upgrade the CPU to a P4 this weekend hopefully after that it will run cooler. Just hope i can use the TEC and my current Heatsink and Fan on it, Should be able to as it was rated for P4 3.0Ghz and up.

Well just bought and Installed a P4 2.53. Temps are the same 20C in idle and 74 under fullload i think the sensors bad or is just in the wrong place and the TEC is some how throwing it off. I ran CPU Stability Test 6.0 for about 12 hours straight. No way any CPU could last 12 Hours at 74C if thats truely what its running at.

Well this is really confusing me. I just put a Thermaltake Volcano 7+ on my P4 2.53 and it runs at 35C in idle and about 54C under full load. I just dont get how the Volcano 7 can out cool a Thermal Electric Cooler under full load when the Thermal Electric Cooler take the Idle temp down to 16C from 35C idle with the volcano. Also dont understand why the Motherboard CPU temp Alarm never went off when it said it was at 74C and i have it set to alarm at 60C maybe the Thermal Electric Cooler some how messed up the CPU temp sensor but then why didnt it mess it up in BOIS. Any suggestions on why the Thermal Electric Device would make the Sensor tell the wrong temp? Or maybe the Thermal Electric Device just cant handle the CPU's heat under Full Load but that dont say why the Alarm didnt go off.
