Ok, I bought the Zalman 7000aclu about 2 weeks ago, cpu temp lingered around 40C with no case fans and everything ran fine until today. I just received the Antec true 330w PSU to replace my crappy generic one and after installing it I thought everything was fine and stable so I went to watch some tv. I dozed off for about an hour and when I woke up and checked the temps the cpu diode reading was at 86C! Immediately I thought there was something wrong with the app I was using (Everest home edition) so I tried rebooting from the start menu to check the temps in bios. Just as I was about to hit restart all of a sudden the thing just shuts down by itself.. I hit the power button to turn it back on but it shuts off again, within 5 seconds... I left it alone for a little bit.
Now at least my PC is up and running but at higher temps than I had before, it starts off at 50C and keeps rising till it hits 55C and just stays around there. So I need some help in trying to find out what caused the huge spike in the temp I had earlier and why is the idle temp still so much higher now after only installing a psu. Two things: I noticed the vent on the Antec PSU, the side facing inwards towards the optical drive is outputting much more heat than my old one.. it creates sort of a hot spot right above the heatsink.. thought I should mention it but personally I cant see how that would be the cause of the problem since 40C to 86C is not exactly a slight increase in temp. Second I am using Articsilver 3 that had been stored away in a resealable ziploc bag for over a year, is that a no no? Any help would be appreciated.
